What kind of tantrums have you seen on the sidlines, and how have you handled them?

I saw one kids went into convaltions(sp) on the sideline when he was taken out of the game. He would not responde to anyone or talk to anyone so the trainer came over to him and he had to call the EMS to come and get him because he was not responding to anyone. And I stress he was not injuried at all. It was the strangest thing I ever saw.

try and be calm.
when I was a freshman coach, I saw a player just go off on the varsity coach. the varsity head coach did not even reply to the kid. the kid just screamed at him.
needless to say, he never played another down. I think if you yell at them, you play right into their hands.
it is best to have the team just form a circle around him and give him a group hug and express their love for him and how much they value him. lol.

One year, our 4th string RB who was our punter (about as bright as a bag of hammers) was setting up for a punt on our 20 yard line. The ball flies over his head into the endzone. Instead of breaking to the ball (assumed it was a touchback?) he started walking off the field....meanwhile, the defense is swarming on this loose ball in the end zone (touchdown!). While an assistant coach went over to him to redirect the kid, before he gets a full sentence out the kid (still on the field ) shouts, "Shut the F up you, MF!!"....
He was directed to the locker room to turn his stuff in and was off the team.
Also had an All State kid that threw his helmet anytime anything went awry.

This year our starting running back decided he was going to be lazy and just walk out to early outs befroe a ball agame. Our HC told him if he saw him walking agian that he would not play tonight. He told HC to kiss his a++ and that he didnt want to play for a sorry coach. Coach screamed at him all the way to the locker room. The rb proceeded to take his helmet off and throw and cussing everybody in site. Finall he got in coaches face and told him to hit him. Coached laughed and the rb set and the stands and never got to play agian. At this time the same rb is facing 1 degree manslaughter for the beating of a old man. Crazy

We had a good one in practice this year. A DE took some of the DL's motivation to heart and went off. He grabbed a set of small aluminum bleachers-the kind about 5 seats high- turned it over and rolled it. During the break the guys were all trying to pick it up and nobody could (and, yes I did try it after the kids left.Heavy). The kid has an anger management problem. Last year he got mad about something and ripped the locker room door off the hinges. Why do we keep him around? Two reasons: 1. He's really a good kid. I mean, he really is. "Yes sir, No sir" kid who takes things out on things, not people. 2. Well, duh! He's a DL who can throw bleachers and rip doors off the hinges.

wow, I have been lucky. I have never been swore at. maybe it is becasue I do not allow swearing from players or coaches. cost the team 20 squat thrusts. if a coach swears, it costs him 20 squat thrusts.

I have never been swore at. :oWOW! ...that reminds me of a story....(ha) a few years ago, we had our Oline coach putting the guys through stuff (guy is a former AllAmerican D1 Center, Ultimate Fighter, and a current SWAT Trainer) and he's going through drills with them and stuff, and goes (in typical lineman coach fashion), "Alright you fat-bastar*s let's go do...."near an hour later, during a break, one of the kids walks up to him and says with a straight face, " Hey, coach, I'm NOT a 'bastar*'....I know my parents..." then walks off.

Good one there, Brophy! Here's another(didn't happen to me but the coach told me about it later) In a pee-wee game out of town, my friend was having trouble with his o-line blocking this one particular"wide body" type kid from the other team! in our league the coach of the 8-10's could be on the field to direct the players, then just back off before the snap, So anyway, old david's offense is sputtering cause they can't run a play because this big kid is crashing the center or somewhere on every down! He finally loses it in the huddle and screams "who's got the fat boy". The kid in question overhears this and hollers back at coach david(while firmly grasping his family jewels) "Hey coach, I got your fat boy"! David said at first he wanted to kick the kid's butt but after thinking a second decided discretion might be the answer. We laughed about it later though! You wouldn't think a ten yr. old could comeback with a good one liner like that but ? True story, happened back in the mid 80's.
