A few of ours:
TEAM GOALS: 1. Beat (conference rival)! 2. Win the conference! 3. Find leaders!
COACHING GOALS: 1. Put players in a position to be successful! 2. Keep it simple! 3. Work hard! 4. Be good teachers!

The only goals I like are the ones every team you will ever coach can achieve.

I just prefer using concepts like getting better every day, focusing on the little things, being where your feet are, playing with discipline, and all that jazz. You always play to win, of course, but some years winning a state title or going undefeated isn't realistic enough to throw up on a gigantic sign in the weight room. And when you do have a really strong, veteran team one year and you emphasize those goals, what do you do the next year when 20 starters graduate? Not every team is championship caliber, but every team from Pop Warner to the NFL can get better. I think it's best to emphasize that.

TNT= "takes no talent", which sounds similar to what jg78 is proposing. Things that don't require talent such as alignment, hustle, attendance etc. Things that lead to improvement and perhaps success as opposed to goals that are really just outputs of the talent. I can line up correctly every time against JJ Watt, but I probably won't be effectively blocking him. I can line up incorrectly against JJ Abrams and probably can still effectively block him.

We've gone to weekly goal setting every Monday. Each player sets three goals
1. Academic - (something tangible - go to math extra help twice this week...know all Spanish vocabulary for quiz) 2. Football - (be 100% on assignments by Thursday - catch an extra 100 balls after practice every day this week) 3. Character / Leadership - (help with lunch room clean up - hold the door for everyone at all school assembly - attend band event to show support)
Works for us and helps our kids focus on being better people. Kids tell teammates in position meetings after practice on Thursday if they achieved their goals or not, then they do some work if they did not meet their goals.
