Students are going on field trips almost every day and interacting with hundreds of students from other schools. I doubt there are talks about closing schools around here.

Apparently be teaching my classes online (private school, and we only get paid if we provide a service).

What are you going to do when school shuts down for 2 weeks? Nice, leisurely workouts with unhurried warm ups and stretching after. Come up with BS Google Classroom assignments that my kids won't do. Clean my apartment?

Figuring it out right now
They’ve closed before/after school weights for a month...so I’m putting together a body weight workout packet
What I teach is nearly impossible to do online, I’m a support for struggling kids, don’t have a true content so that will be interesting
Weighing the option of loading my kids up and hitting the beach, not sure how responsible that is
Watching more TV and playing more PS4 while doing less film study than I should
Reading books
Not eating healthy
This is really uncharted territory, very surreal honestly

Our district is in the process of trying to get together its plan right now. Everything is still very fluid in regards to what is going to happen. Tomorrow all of our county superintendents will be meeting with health officials so hopefully we'll know more then.
The plan right now is to continue using Schoology which we have district wide on the kids Chromebooks (we are 1:1) so we are probably in a better position then most. All of my classes are already on Schoology so for me it will hopefully be a pretty easy transition should it happen, with the addition of recording some screencasts to take the place of any lectures that I'd normally do. My wife teaches in another district and they've floated the idea of digital learning should things go this route but the issue is that they are not 1:1 and their students have very limited home internet
One of the questions that a lot of people still had is what will be expected of teachers should this all come to fruition. Will we have to still report to school on a daily basis (almost like office hours) or will we be allowed to work remotely? Most of the colleges in our state that are going this route have still required professors to hold office hours as an way to handle student problems so I wouldn't be suprised if that ends up being put on us as well.

We have Schoology as well for our HS. We haven't been told to start getting all that ready for days or weeks at a time, but I feel like it might be headed that way. Being home with kids for multiple days/weeks might get us all a little stir crazy!!

Like, many, I'm still figuring this stuff out, but I heard/read something that resonated with me. All of these social distancing measures are not necessarily about protecting yourself, but rather about protecting the more vulnerable members of our society. So in a way, you might look at social distancing as a form of service toward others or doing our part toward the group effort.

SMH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the words of Aaron Rodgers... everyone needs to R-E-L-A-X!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are right, but the decision makers and the vocal 5% parents never do. Imagine how good of a job coaching would be if those two groups had their head on straight to begin with. Now they have a unifying excuse to freak out and justify their craziness. We can all be relaxed, but we have to deal with their world- which means we have to prep for this nonsense.

I am pretty sure I will have to report to school. Whenever we have snow days teachers have to report. I am sure they will treat this no differently....I have three kids and believe me I would rather be at school quarentined in my classroom than be at home all day for two weeks.

This district has been piloting e-learning days for the last 2 years. We are 1-1 and use Schoology as well. These e-learning days are to be used in the place of cancelling school because of snow/ice/etc... The expectations are that we have lessons for all of our classes that will involve about 20 minutes worth of work for the kids (7 periods x 20 minutes = 140 minutes). The teachers are expected to be available online during the school days to answer questions, make comments, assist in the lessons as needed. The kids are given 5 days after the fact to get all this work submitted for credit.

Calling this nonsense seems crazy to me.
You can be calm and not crazy and still take measures to not be a dumbass.

The parents who came into our admin this week and started screaming at them to shut down the school and that there were hundreds of kids in the valley dying of the corona-virus (none of which is true). I would say they are freaking out. Maybe not where you are, but for some of us it is happening. There is a difference between taking measures and freaking out.
