Social Media pass rush clips of OL vs DL camps and the DL has a 2 way go on the OL. How bout we run trap a couple times in those drills. Do they not have to maintain their rush lanes? I'm like, "you just lost contain, guy."

The 1 on 1 set up for OL vs DL is so stupid.
I've told this story on here before. When I was in college we would do 1 on 1 pass rush drills with the DL. They would have a two way go and pretty much win every time. That's just part of it. But then they would start talking all kinds of shitt.
Our best DL was going crazy one day talking about how he couldn't be blocked. The DL coach started calling him Red Rock, the unridable bull in 8 seconds. The defense is hooping and hollering and asking who wants some more.
I'm pretty reserved and a back up, but said Forget it. I'll give it a go. Everyone is thinking I am crazy and stupid and about to get killed.
We line up, I take a pass set step. He comes off the ball like he's about to storm Normandy. Then, I just threw my shoulder into his thigh board and cut that son of a bittch. He went down
The offense went crazy! They loved it. The kid was pissed and started swingin. He was an All-American and our best defensive player so the coaches were pretty frustrated. But there was a little more balance in the world after that.

Those clips of the OL vs DL 1on1 in shorts is one of the dumbest, most pointless things I see in our sport and needs to go ASAP.

We lost an early season game 2 years ago and a huge part of it was a DE letting the QB get the edge because we took an inside move several times. The DE who was the primary offender was all over the "camp circuit" that summer doing all that crap.
Anyway the following Monday I asked him before practice what was used to represent the QB during all those camps. He said "a cone" like I knew he would. I asked "was the quarterback from DP a little more athletic than the cones?"
Another one of our guys tried an inside swim move during our padded 1 on 1 period and got his ribs crushed by the OL. Our DL coach says to him "that moves not as good when the OL isn't wearing a puffy hat and you don't know the snap count is it?"
Needless to say you aren't alone in despising that "drill."

And yet kids get actual scholarships from this drill at college camps. Crazy.

I think that's because you could line them up and have them do damn near any athletic competition and see which guys are scholarship athletes and which ones aren't.
Unfortunately for us this drill looks similar to a football game so kids think they are learning something that's going to help them in an actual game. I can see how from a talent evaluation perspective this drill could be useful, there's just limited practical application to a team game with a real live opponent in my opinion.

We always give our DL a one way go to simulate these things unless the opponent shows something different. Not that we won't have the DL slant across to the inside gap.

Ya if you just make a defensive call and then they play off of that then it usually works out ok.
And as unfair as 1v1 pass rush is for OL, the 2v1 double team combo pods must be hell for Dlinemen

at least the double teams simulate significant game situations.

Its a trash drill. Great for evaluating athletic potential but does nothing to evaluate either of them as football players

Consider it defensive payback for all the crap we have to put up with in 7-on-7.
Nah, just playing. But it is the same type of nonsense.

I can imagine Backetball coaches have dealt with this for a long time with the lack of fundamentals being celebrated by pop culture and personal trainers.
