So I'm sure all of you have watch the Saban/Belichick documentary on HBO. It wasn't really an eye opening experience outside of a couple interesting things I saw them do in regards to teaching the game.
They both have questions about scenarios in game about what the best thing to do would be. IE, Belichick was asking his team about when to put the hands team on the field, even if it's not an obvious situation the team is going to Onside kick.
What are specific scenarios or specific expectations of in game actions you would want to quiz your team on and then tell them why they were right or wrong? Again, as a way to teach the game and develop a better understanding.

Honestly on the HS level it would be very basic information. Then applying that information. Like what stops the clock and when does it start? Play clock differences like when you get 40 and when do you get 25. When to run to a sideline and when to get as much as you can and get down. When to hold the ball before taking a knee. When not to back up to catch a punt. How to spike a ball to stop the clock. When you should take a sack and when you shouldn’t (I think they are going to add the rule to allow QBs to throw the ball away this year). How to tell by the officials signal if a player is off the LOS. How the coin toss works.
One I remember from Belichick is when you have a team backed up close to their goal line they’ll use a hard count or something similar. The offensive thinking is if they screw it up it’s only a few inches but if the defense does it’s 5 yards.

I would add when to intercept and when to just knock it down.
And to always knock it straight down.

I would add when to intercept and when to just knock it down. And to always knock it straight down. Ha, 20+ years ago i had a teammate set the national hs record for ints in a single game by ignoring that principle. I’m fairly certain the opposition was using it as a defacto punt

The questions I've come up with
1. "If the situation is 3rd and short, their side of the field, what will the opposing team try to do in order to get a first down?" - Answer should be some combination of hard count and a run (specifically, their tendency)
2. "If we're trying to block a field goal and we block the kick but the ball goes beyond the line of scrimmage, what should everyone do?" Answer should be to leave it alone
3. "In a two minute drill, what two things stop the clock?" answer, a first down to reset the chains or going out of bounds with forward momentum (backward momentum, the clock still runs)
4. "If we're on defense and it is 4th down, the opposing team is just outside the redzone. They throw a pass and it is head right towards you. What should you do?" Answer is knock it down because if you intercept it, we'll probably have worse field position.
5. "If we are on kick return and the ball is heading towards the sideline, what should you do?" answer, be prepared to fall on it or pick it up but if it has a chance to go out of bounds, let it go out of bounds
6. "On defense, the opposing team tries to pass the ball but one of our defensive linemen tip the ball. What is now legal in coverage?" Answer, pass interference, you can grab the receiver and toss him

And if it is a deep kick and almost out of bounds - step out of bounds and reach back to recover ball. Penalty on the kicking team...

I know the rule you're talking about but with High School kids, I don't think they'd understand the mechanics behind it. If I had a kid smart enough I'd teach him but outside of one or two kids I've coached over 7 years, no one else would be able to execute that.

A player that is not in the field of play can not touch the ball. Wouldn't that be illegal touching?

Well I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. I'll guarantee not many, if any, officials in my area know that rule.
