Last week we had a freshman come with us (JV) to film. I asked if he had ever filmed a football game before, he said he had. I gave him the 90 overview of, start recording as they break the huddle, make sure you can see the sticks, zoom in as the line goes down, follow the ball, etc.
Go to upload the film and I have 17 clips.....and one clip of the entire 1st half, halftime, and the 3rd quarter.
With that lesson learned.....does anyone have an instruction sheet/checklist they go over with a kid who is going to film?
Thanks in advance JVD

send me your email, I've got something that will work. Used for sideline and end zone video.

Because it didn't happen to me, that's hilarious.
A few years ago we had a JV kid film the varsity game. For some inexplicable reason he opted not to use the tripod and elected to hold the cam in his hands. It happened that the kid had allergies and we were playing on a grass field next to some ag fields on a breezy day. So about every 30 seconds the view would slowly tip back and then violently slam forward when he sneezed.
Then there's all the times that kids... and even a few coaches used the zoom to look at cheerleaders, MILFs, etc. Whatever we get paid sometimes it isn't enough.

Not to hack the thread, but do you instruct the filmers to shoot the scoreboard? We had a filmer who liked to film the scoreboard after each score, and we had to break him of that habit.

I want a 5-7 second clip of the scoreboard after each score and at the end of each quarter. It's marked in HUDL as "S" in the ODK column.
Helps me remember when people scored (time/quarter) and quarter scores.
///BREAK///
I also want a clip showing the teams shake hands. Just in case something happens, we have it on film.

We pay a company to film for us. We played out of town (about 2 hour drive) a few years ago and the company subcontracted the film out to a guy close to the venue. He did the same thing. Didn't pause the camera once. Also showed up 2 minutes before kickoff and spilled coffee everywhere. That Freshman didn't do such a bad job

It’s annoying to have to cut it up but it’s not that big a deal, you scrub fast forward and split the clip at every huddle. A lot better than missed plays!
Scoreboard shots are good to figure out what’s going on, just glue to them to the next clip.

I have kids in my class film...THEN I WATCH THE FILM WITH THEM. It's for a grade so it's a little different. But I show them how they might need to turn the camera on a little earlier. I also explain when to turn it off. I also explain "no huddle" and tempo. Some teams we played stood at the line and called plays, but took forever. Explained to the filmer...pay attention. I also have a "no cellphone" policy when filming.
And the best year ever I had sophomore girls run the end zone system. They were trained up and ran it so well it was disgustingly awesome. I wish they didn't graduate.
