I will try anything if
1. it is simple 2. the kids can get it 3. if it builds off of something else, especially up front (see 1 and 2) 4. if it actually gives an advantage 5. if it complements something else
got anything to add about adding things?

uh.......if what you are doing sucks and you are looking for a way to move the ball......
lol......sounds smart @$$ but if we really think about it that's a major reason we make changes to what we are doing.

well, not changes to the base so much as to just things to add
and yes
if it sucks, then find something, anything to get the job done

probably everyone "adds" something each week in an effort to get your best player matched up against their worst player. the "new" play may be simply a new formation or putting your stud in a different position (i.e. move your TB to flanker to run a post route, etc.)
we try to look at what things can hurt the defense. then, what do we already have that can hurt them. then, what formations do we have that can hurt them and can adapt a play we already run from this formation then, what plays can we modify to exploit a weakness or matchup

how much "dipping" into other styles do you do though?
like adding option? power stuff? just things that are not what you would call your offense in general???

well, our head coach want to do it all the time....lol
he watches film all morning, then when i get in the office from ISS he's always saying "so & so really hurt them with this, so what do you think?"........haha....i kid him about it but there are times when that scheme isn't too far off what we already do.
i'll say we probably add a completely new thing maybe every 3 weeks on average.

when i add things i try to keep the overall shape of our scheme/philosophy intact. therefore, you won't see us adding midline or veer stuff since that is not in-line with what we do. however, other things such as pass routes, screens, oneback runs may be added since they fall in line much better with our offense already
