Does anyone have a team rule about hair length? When do you enforce it? What do you do if they don’t cut their hair?

Can’t imagine a reason for having a rule about hair length
More important things to worry about for us

Don't make these kids abide by some outdated rule that even professionals don't have. You're only going to push away kids and make enemies.

I encourage our kids to get professional looking haircuts. We hold our kids to a high standard. They should represent the school and our team in a positive manner.
Gotta do the little things right.

Things I have to do before worrying about that:
Play better defense Play better offense Play better special teams Improve fundamentals EVERYWHERE Put some stuff away that was turned in late STILL sitting in my office Secure a low effort effective fundraiser Improve numbers Improve my assistant coaches Improve the quality of our film Close the gap between what our youth coaches teach v. what we run Improve the overall quality of our youth program Organize my equipment cage Get more kids in the weight room Get kids in the weight room to improve technique Put finishing touches on summer schedule / camp Communicate the positives of football in the concussion era Get my recruitment list out to all the D3 coaches asking me about 2020 seniors Stop kids from vaping Lose 15 pounds Get a bunion removed.
Then, maybe.....but prob not.
Sorry to be a d!ck but I couldn't resist. Been a long off season.

Do you coach the Yankees? / \ Yes No / \ Good for you, do what Steinbrenner says Who cares? It's just hair.

If an HC wants to die on that mountain, go for it. But I know I wouldn't as I've seen HCs that do and it just adds more to their plate.

Nope but we do have some coaches with questionable haircuts. It gets kinda tough being seen in public with them.

What is a professional looking haircut by today's standards. I work and have worked with men with ponytails/long hair, ladies with various colors of hair (dyed), What kind of accountability do you use to maintain this "high standard" . Any issues ever enforcing something that is really so subjective.

In a sport that is losing numbers in our area, we aren't gonna push away good athletes over something like hair. If we did that at our school, we'd lose 1/3 of our players.

I coached in a public school where nobody cared. I coached in a private Christian school where there were strict rules on how you could wear your hair. Then a kid (tailback/cornerback) enrolled in the school and he, his dad & brothers all had long dreads. This wasn't the kind of kid that a football coach looks at and says, "Sorry, we don't like your hair, you can't play here." The HC went to the admin and said, "It's part of his Jamaican religious heritage so we can't discriminate." The school made an exception and within two years had to completely scrap the hair rules because they got tired of defending it. Some of the hair cuts on kids now at the school look absolutely ridiculous and I imagine the school really regrets their decision but it's hair, who cares? As a kid I wore a mullet, a mohawk, a flat top, a buzz cut and everything in between. I turned out sorta okay and my issues aren't because of how I wore my hair in high school.

reminds me of a John Wooden story with Bill Walton: everyone on UCLA basketball team had to shave..
Bill Walton (star center for UCLA):" Coach I am not going to shave... My style is to have a beard"
CoachWooden:" Bill we are really going to miss you"
Walton shaved!!!!
obviously you cant do this in all circumstances...But I do like the discipline part of it

If hair is making it so a helmet cannot fit and protect properly, we may suggest a hair cut. If not, who cares.

Does anyone have a team rule about hair length? When do you enforce it? What do you do if they don’t cut their hair? Seriously? Did we go back to the 70s? There's a good way to create an unnecessary problem.

I am at a Private Christian school, the only rule we have like this (school rule that is) is you can't grow out your facial hair until you are a senior. I don't know why this is a rule but once or twice a year I will get an older female teacher coming to me complaining about such and such sophomore who has a goatee.
As far as hair length, nothing, not really an issue and I don't think it would be.
