So we may potentially be looking to schedule some games for next year and I was toying with the idea of trying to play a game in or near Orlando, next October, perhaps late October. First of all, would their potentially be teams in that area with the freedom to schedule a game? (not locked into region schedule, etc).
And then more specific, how hard would it be to find a team to play that would be somewhat similar to us? We are a school of about 1750, but more of an academic school, that is good at country club sports. We struggle in football. Even though we are 5a, we cannot/could not compete with the better quality programs in 2a, 3a that may only have 500 kids, right now. Would hate to travel that far for a butt whooping.
Very speculative right now, but just trying to get some info/idea of the lay of the land.
am gonna get info from KSA (company that puts these trips together) but am thinking perhaps we can save $ if we do it on our own.
Thanks

Where would you be traveling from? I know a school up here went down and played at Disney's sports place. Not sure if that's the same as the KSA company or not. I would think if you are traveling far then a company would be best to use for all the logistics and such, also for possible match ups.

We've done the travel thing several times. It's a pain in the arse. We've been fortunate that we've been on the radar of the company that coordinates the teams that get broadcasted on the cable stations.
These made for TV games are usually early in the non-region/conference games. I don't know how it would work in the midst of region/conference play. Usually in our state, the regions/conferences that have odd numbers of teams usually end up marrying up with close by regions/conferences that are also odd numbered.
Plus another thing we run into with OOS games on a whole; not every state is on the same home & home rotation. For example, SC & NC runs on different 2 year cycles.
Other than an IMG, I'd imagine that FLA is similar to our state.

Plus, again I don't where you traveling to Florida from, unless you've already got a game lined up for next year; unless you've got some deep pocketed boosters or being sponsored by the made for cable TV crowd, it will be tough to get everything lined up and paid for within the next 8 months.

When I was in Florida quite a few teams in our area played and hosted out of state games.
I don’t know the full details because we never did it. But I thing there were generally two ways I happened.
One was an in season. The other is a bowl game. Teams that having a winning record and miss the playoffs are allowed to schedule a bowl game. The school I wa at did it the year before I got there.
I really don’t know much more than that.
You can search “games wanted” on Fhsaa.org in their classified section. That may help.
