Our season came to end last night and the players turned in gear after the game. Myself and another coach were putting away gear and started looking at the massive stack of Thigh Pads that did not even come off the shelf this year as all of our kids had girdles with the thigh pad included. So my question is does anyone take old thigh pads to recycle or does anyone have any ideas what we could do with 50+ pairs of thigh pads?

I keep them around in case I need to make a pad for a hand, shoulders, etc, since we dont have a trainer.

We have paired done our pads for that very reason- we only carry 100 sets of pads. Way more than enough and we handed out 20 sets this year. Our middle school has integrated 7 pad pants, and we get girdles on clearance at the end of the season and sell them at cost to the kids. We are fortunate to have a new storage area so keeping them around isn't a big deal.
Along those lines: we stripe down old helmets, cut them in half and use them as awards. Our old shoulder pads get used for trade in/trade up programs, our old jerseys get sold- first priority is the kid who wore the jersey and then up for grabs..$10-30 a piece. We have even done our own reconditioning and given helmets to team sponsors to put in their place of business. Old balls turn into awards as well. After our first year of cleaning out decades of crap we have become more resourceful.
