What programs do you have at your school to provide academic assistance to your players, we have an after school study hall for 1hour M-TH, but it doesn't seem to be very effective because we always have eligibility issues. Does anyone use a program that hires faculty to tutor specific subjects? I'm open to any and all suggestions....

At my current school we have a Math teacher and a Language Arts teacher available one hour before and after school. They receive $30 per hour.
This program is available to all students.
At my previous school, the superintendent was not willing to pay the money so our coaches had to rotate study hall duty.
We checked grades weekly and kids with any D or F were required to attend the next week.
Multiple weeks in study hall led to additional "reward sessions" after practice (for some kids a little extra conditioning some how related to better grades...for others, never will).

Freshmen and Sophomores have to take PE. During season (doesn't matter the sport), they go to study hall during their PE period. It is run by "classified staff" (read: non-teachers) so usually getting the help that a kid actually needs doesn't happen. We also have two or three times before school or after school where teachers have an open study hall/tutoring schedule in each of the four core areas. The teachers that work these get $35 an hour for their time. There seem to work better but the problem there is getting butts in chairs. Our school wide policy is that "any student with a D or F is strongly encouraged to attend tutoring" in that particular subject area. Still it doesn't make all that much sense for athletes to attend because the majority of the time the outside tutoring times are during practice times.

What do you guys actually do at your study tables? In my first College gig, we required such things as daily agenda schedule/things to do list (which accounted for their entire following day). Obviously not as important at the H.S. level, but I was wondering if things other than "doing homework/studying" Study skills.. forcing them to outline chapters... SQ3R methods, flashcard construction, graphic organizers,
