This is my schedule in-season for a Friday game:
Monday: 3:15 Practice: Weights, film, scouting report and game plan. 6:30 Leave (usually I'll have some homework like film, scout cards, or polishing game plan).
Tuesday 3:15 Offensive practice. 7:00 Leave
Wednesday 3:15 Defensive practice 7:30-8:00 Leave (my night to stay until all kids have been picked up.
Thursday 3:15 Pre-game practice 6:00 Leave
Friday 3:00 Pregame meal 7:00 Kickoff 10:30 Leave
Saturday and Sunday afternoon: Break down film and put together tentative defensive game plan and scout report. I should explain that we're unusual in that the OC and I each work alone at home. We've both done it for years and both prefer to do it this way. It takes however long it takes.
Sunday: 5:00 Meeting: Grade film, watch video of opponent, finalize game plan. 9:30 Meeting ends. Go home and finish scouting report.

Monday: 1:30pm-2:20pm: varsity film & weights/ JV abs and box routine 2:30pm - 3:20pm: freshman dress and practice; varsity coaches ready for practice 3:45pm-5:45pm: practice 6:00pm - 6:20pm: LB film Tuesday: 1:30pm - 2:20pm: varsity OL meet, varsity DL meet, specialty on the field; JV lift 2:30pm-3:20pm: freshman same 3:45pm - 5:45pm: practice 6:00pm-6:20pm: DB film Wednesday: PE's same as Monday Practice same for home game start painting field Thursday: PE same 3:45pm-4:45pm: practice 5:00pm: if home game finish painting field Friday: game, home at 10:00pm if it is a home game, around midnight if away. Saturday: 7:30am: break down LB from game. other coaches come in at around 8:00 or so and do their positions also. 8:00am-8:30am: post numbers and stats from game. 8:30am-12:30pm: break down next opponent and computer work. 10:00am - 10:20am: varsity abs, stretch, light run. 10:20am - little before 11:00am: film from friday. around 12 to 12:30pm: go home, rest the mind and spend time with family Sunday: 10:30am - 1:00pm finishing up game plan. take stuff home to finish what i didn't get in before 1:00 and do it after kids are asleep that night. we don't have many meetings, most i have been in early in my career were just bull sessions. so now if we do have them, they are quick and to the point. a friend of mine worked for Pat Collins former head coach at Longview, Tx. when he was in Louisiana and they only worked for about 4 or 5 hours a day on the weekends. he would make them quit at 12:00pm on Sat. to go home and spend time for the family. it was his belief to keep the coaches fresh for the long season and not burn them out. i have tried to copy that approach myself.
