I am starting notice most of my player concussions this year have been equipped with Schutt Vengeance helmets. Has anyone else had a significant number of concussions happening from one helmet type? I ordered a bunch of the Guardian Caps in hopes it will aleviate some of the contact in practice.

We're only a couple weeks into season. You have enough concussions already that you're able to determine that "most" are from players wearing Schutts? If so, it doesn't sound like a helmet issue.

I agree with this. You might need to reevaluate how the kids are making contact and pay attention to it. We've had a strong emphasis on ALWAYS initiating contact with our hands while blocking/shedding and either going number-number or attacking with our shoulder on tackling. But, we're still after kids daily as they're leading with their face masks and helmets.. Our starting JV H-back was flagged for doing so on kick-out blocks during a JV game on Monday. I pulled him out and didn't put him back in as we've NEVER taught the H-backs to do anything but strike with their hands..

I totally agree it has more to do with them using their heads with first contact. The kids with concussions are all under classmen that due to our low numbers are playing varsity sooner than I would like. All of them are linemen, so correcting bad habits is my first step when they return. It just seemed weird to me that they are all wearing the same helmet.

Helmets don't prevent concussions, they prevent skull fractures.

Helmets don't prevent concussions, they prevent skull fractures. While true, and while that is there primary job, and while also true that no helmet can prevent all concussions, helmets from 60 years ago did a pretty good job of preventing skull fractures.
