kyle--are you asking if certain schools target and recruit undersized but quick nose guards, or are you asking if certain schools are running schemes with undersized quick nose guards

No. Schools want the biggest, fastest, strongest, MOST EXPLOSIVE player possible. They want BIG quick lineman.
Sounds like you are trying to get some interest in one of your players. My suggestion would be to simply market him as a football player...not worry about a "school looking for someone in his mold"
In terms of scholarships...his size will definitely hurt him. No coach wants to be the coach who brought in "the undersized" guy. If the player doesn't work out (which happens at all levels- DIII through BCS conference football) and he has an obvious "deficiency" well, you tend to not keep your job very long. From the recruiting perspective, it is much MUCH better to recruit and miss big than it is to miss small.

Coach , for what's its worth - UW-Milwaukee used a small athletic noseguard when we played against them a number of years ago. The kid was a wrestling champ and they did a lot of zone blitzing with him.
