All of the talk about Last Chance U got me wondering how many JUCO's there are in the East that play football. The only one that I can think of are Lackawanna (PA) and Louisburg (NC).

Up until relatively recently, we had quite a few JUCOs in Illinois that played football but we are down to just one, College of DuPage.

There are a number of prep schools in the East that roughly fill that niche, getting DI players w/o the grades eligible, while giving them a place to play, among them are Milford Academy, Fork Union Military Academy, Hargrave Military Academy, Valley Forge Military Academy.
(Those schools count LeSean McCoy, Eddie George, Vinny Testaverde, Plaxico Burgress, Torry Holt, Larry Fitzgerald and many more among their alumni)
Preserving eligibility wise, its a better deal for the player, you don't lose a year of eligibility by spending a year at the prep school (you might have to actually still make the test score, I'm not sure)

Not much there from southern PA to Georgia. That's probably why those fly by night "academies" have been popping up.

I wonder if there are less jucos playing football in the east because there are so many D3 football schools their? I’m guessing the plethora of D2s & D3s are likely the reason Michigan has none. Also probably the reason there are no FCS/1AA in MI (that & all the former FCS type schools are in the MAC).

New England has a ton of the prep schools (NEPSAC) plus there are many D2/D3 programs.

Football is an expensive sport for cash-strapped JUCOs. Grand Rapids Community College in Grand Rapids, MI had two non-scholarship JUCO national championships and an undefeated season in their last five seasons and folded the program because they were losing money on it. Somehow they weren't national champions in the undefeated season? There was some sort of housing accusations that I think sparked the question but I guess they had been talking about getting rid of the program for quite a few years at that point.
