your wasting your time. the same guy said neal and koppen werent drafted by the patriots and they were. look it up on NFL.com. My mistake Koppen was drafted in 03 but Neal was not. "Stephen Neal was originally signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent (7/23/01) ... Waived by the Patriots (8/26/01) ... Signed to the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad (9/4/01) ... Signed by the Patriots (12/12/01) from the Eagles practice squad ... Placed on injured reserve (10/23/02) ... Placed on reserve/physically unable to perform list (8/26/03) ... Placed on injured reserve (11/10/03)."

And this is from an unbiased view point. Beleive it or not the Pats are still my favorite nfl team, not nearly as much as i use to like them but I was still gettig nervous in there close games. I just hate the coach. I can imagine how non new englanders feel toward Belichek and the rest of the team.

I did a little more research to prove my point that Belicheck is no better or worse than anyother team when "finding" talent and "knowing" talent.
I took the worst team in football, the Miami Dolphins. Eventhough they have had different coaches I started from the same year I did with the Pats, 2000.
Since 2000 the Dolphins drafted 59 players, 21 are still on the team. The Pats drafted 69 players since 2000 and have the same number of players still on the team, 21.
If Belicheck was so good at discovering talent then why did he cut/release all his draft picks from 2007? Like I said in a previous post only 3 of 8 are still on the roster, onlt 1 of which is on the active roster. The Dolphins on the other hand drafted 10 players in 2007, ALL OF WHICH ARE STILL ON THE ACTIVE ROSTER. Are the Dolphins great genious'? Um hell no. But their draft picks panned out better than the Pat's did.
My point being that Belicheck should not get more credit than he deserves. Every team drafts people that turn out to be mistakes, just look at the Pats 2007 draft class. A huge failure. Ofcourse he's a good coach but there ar many more coaches out there just as intelligent as he is. There are other coaches out there that can do the job he does and that can spot talent just as well.
After all that I would have given the coach of the year to McCarthy of the Packers or even Romeo, or Phillips.

Remember, there is a 53 man limit on the roster. Because the patriots cut all those picks doesn't mean they didn't pan out, it means they didn't have room for them on their roster. If you have 10 picks but only 4 open spots on your roster you aren't going to cut someone whose been winning for you for 5 years for a 6th or 7th rounder who you drafted as a camp body. I don't think that is an accurate judge of coaching skill.

Yes but if he was so good at spotting talent don't you think he would have drafted players that would have made the team? Don't forget the NFL is totally different than college. The head coach has far less power in the Pro's. You have to give credit to the entire organization.
I'm only trying to say I don't think he should be the coach of the year. Ofcourse he's an excellennt X's and O's guy, I can't argue that, but beyond that I think he could handle things a lot better. He's the biggest phony around. His modest act is the biggest joke. The guy is the most arrogant coach in the nfl and express it through pretending that 16-0 means nothing or isn't on his mind, or by saying a teams they play even if it's Miami that they are great and tough opponents. Plus his off the field actions are pretty disgraceful if you ask me.

In the NFL "finding and using talent" is more than just drafting. He resuscitated Junior Seau's career and I thought he was done. He grabbed Wes Welker who, second round or not, lead the NFL is receptions (and how many of those were for first downs?).
Anyway, you obviously dislike the guy. I don't know him. He wins an awful lot, he does a lot of great little things, he got caught cheating, he's not real friendly with the media, and he works hard at coaching up football. He's a divisive guy. I think he earned it.
Interestingly, if he had been caught cheating in Week 8 I think the whole thing would play out differently and the team might not even have gone 16. It would have been differently if they were already 8-0 or something. But happening first week I think worked out fine for them (obviously).

Down playing the 16-0 record wasn't because he was being arrogant it was because he was trying to keep himself and his team focused on the the next game not the last.
Also to get the best out of your players you don't come out and say "Miami sucks and we are going to beat the crap out of them!" If you do your players aren't going to give the effort need in practice and may possibly play down to the lack of talent that the other team has.
THAT was all about maintaining focus. Hey, the guy doesn't have much of a personality(or at least he doesn't show it to the press or fans) but, you can't deny what he has accomplished as a coach.
And to reiterate what someone already stated talent comes from the draft, trades and free agency. We don't know how talented the guys he drafted were or could have been. If they couldn't beat out the guys that are there and you don't have the room to keep them, on the roster they have to be cut. You don't release a proven veteran for an unproven rookie drafted in the 5th round.
And I am a die hard Miami Dolphin fan! And yes I went down with the ship because thats what a real fan does!

I find it amusing that there are so many people here clamoring over whether Billy B should get any accolades when the mantra that has driven the franchise is "it is amazing what can be accomplished when no one cares who gets the credit"

Spos, their first Super Bowl was a TEAM that was not made up of superstars. Secondly there have been plenty of great teams, great coaches and great players that did not accomplish 16-0. Lastly if you pay attention to Belichick he gives the credit to players and assistants in the victories And when they have played badly or lost in the past he says that everyone needs to improve, starting with him.

Him giving credit to others...what coach doesn't on the record?? He does it in a way that is too humble which is an obvious acting job. I agree the first super bowl team did not have many stars, if any. But like I said before it was the lack of coaching before bledsoe got hurt is where my criticism was for that year. The short passing conservative offense is what made them successful. If they ran the same offense with bledsoe I think you would have seen similiar success. Any professional receiver can be successful in that offense, that's why it worked so well for them. It helped them counter better defensive talent if it was better.

Yes, but Wes Welker and Randy moss seem to do it a lot better than David Patten and Reche Caldwell.

How is coach of the year chosen?
IMO to grant that award to a man who was caught cheating is sending the wrong message. This is why I am asking who chooses the award? If it is the commissioner then I would be surprised as he is trying to clean up the image of the NFL. If it is the other coaches then maybe that shows that what he did is not really a big deal, i.e. it must be accepted practice and they don't feel scorned. If the media pick it, then I am not surprised at all. These are the same people who look for any dirt or negative story they can find to paste all over the newspapers and sportscenter.
Who picks the NFL coach of the year?

Him giving credit to others...what coach doesn't on the record?? He does it in a way that is too humble which is an obvious acting job. So now you're saying you know him off the record? Because if you're going to say Belichick is putting up an act in public, you better {censored} well know him in person, and have proof of it, to say he's arrogant. His defensive plans for the Super Bowls versus the Bills in 1990 and the Rams in 2001 aren't in the Hall of Fame for nothin', buddy. Why Phillips? Isn't his team "stacked?" How many players there now (Romo, Owens, etc.) were already at Dallas since Phillips came aboard? And you want Phillips to win Coach of the Year? Tsk... I will never forgive him for starting Rob Johnson over Flutie in that 1999 AFC Wildcard Game. In my opinion, Wade Phillips is a bumbling idiot. Crennel did an excellent job coaching this year, and if it was any other, so-called "normal" year, I'm sure he would have earned the honors. But you can't argue with 16-0. Belichick is essentially GM of the Pats. Besides, weren't you just pointing all the blame on Belichick for "not finding talent?" Then you turn around and tell us it's the entire organization's responsibility? Going to an occassional Bon Jovi concert is disgraceful? Going to numerous charity events in the off-season is disgraceful? Again, do you know him? Just because he presents himself as unemotional and monotonous to the media doesn't mean he's an arrogant person. If you think that, you are merely assuming. 1. It's spelt "Kraft." 2. There's a salary cap, as someone has already kindly mentioned. Just another reason why it's better to be silent then to speak at all. You are assuming, again, that the Pats are cheating in every way possible and there's some sort of conspiracy involving Belichick and the NFL. Yeah, the talent Belichick, as practical GM of the Pats, brought in to New England. Belichick does have a knack for finding players that fit his scheme(s). Then Belichick proved he was a great coach in the 2001 championship season, according to your logic. Please start thinking. That is all.

I don't support people having extra marital affairs or any of that, but hes definitely not the only one whose done it. Its coach of the year, not person of the year. They leave the person of the year up to Time Magazine.
