Coaches, I have noticed all the talk about coaches trying to scam other coaches by selling them items that they did not originally create and I completely agree that those coaches should be blackballed!! I have some questions though. Do you guys see anything wrong with a coach producing and selling his own video or manual?? The reason I ask is b/c I have been contacted by a coach who is asking me about possibly making a video and I love the idea of possibly doing this!
As most of you know I have a website with many things on it for FREE and I am always willing to trade with guys to help them out. So, is there anything wrong with a coach producing his own products and selling them??
I myself see nothing wrong with it. For example I think Coach Jerry Campbell is a great man and I have a ton of respect for him and I see nothing wrong with him producing his products and selling them. Another great coach who makes his own vids and manuals is DW guru Hugh Wyatt.
So, what are your thoughts??

I have been contacted by a coach who is asking me about possibly making a video and I love the idea of possibly doing this! As long as there are no sheep involved - it sounds like a great opportunity. I think instructional materials / clinics help us become better coaches - it helps us reinforce HOW we communicate our ideas....and that's the bottom line of coaching. remember, it's not unethical...it's not like you are FORCING people to buy your product. Would you have a problem if someone BOUGHT your video then used it as trade barter, though>?

brophy- yes I would. If I give it for free, no problem with people trading it. If I sold it, I do not want it traded or resold.

The reality of it is that while I would not want ppl trading my materials there is really nothing I could do about it besides ask them not to do so. I have been contacted by coaches asking me not to trade their materials and the first thing I did was mark their items as CANT TRADE on my list. I believe if a coach contacts you and asks you not to trade his stuff then you should have the decency to do as he asks. As for trading in general it is a sticky situation. Im not sure how coaches just starting out would get their jump on things if it weren't for coaches who are willing to trade materials with them. That is why if I do produce a video IT WILL NOT COST 40 BUCKS PER TAPE OR DVD!!!

Do you think publishers like AFCA & AFM would be heading in that direction, what with video materials being so readily available now a days?
Interactive DVDs or something instead of published articles?

I'm just thinking out loud.....
Instead of asking "YOU" to write a clinic article or what not - they just film you (or Urban Meyer or whoever) and put your clinic with cutups / drills / illustrations on a DVD and distribute it much like they would their "Coach of the Year" Manuals or pdfs or magazines.....
Much like an 'emagazine'.....
From a logistics standpoint - it would be much more cost-effective, and WHAT do coaches value more? Clinic talks or paper diagrams?
Wondering if this where coaching resources is headed....
