Wondering what, if anything, you guys have done with your teams to break up the pre-season grind. In the past, we've gone bowling as a team, talked about miniature golf or paintball but the logistics (or the cost) never worked out.
I'm wondering what any of you might have done ... or thought about doing ... maybe even without leaving your facility, to make it a "fun" day for the kids, along about the time they're getting tired of practicing against themselves in the sun and the heat.

We don't do anything in particular. But I will say that "the grind" stems from a mentality that trickles top-down. If the coaches running the off-season stop bringing juice to the workouts the kids will follow. You can't fake energy. Start by selling it to the staff- the kids will follow.

We got the Army/National Guard to come out for our last day of spring practice. Sounds like they'll be doing and obstacle coarse, competitive games, beat the crap out of each other with jousting sticks, and a BBQ.
Should be a good way for the boys to still compete, team build, yet get their minds off of football for a day.

A few years ago we did a workout with stations of MMA type exercises. It was a ballbuster but the kids enjoyed it and it really broke up the offseason. I lost it and don't really remember it but I got it from somebody on here.

I do respect your attitude and wish I had it. I just know that I do not have an never ending supply of energy, so I don't expect it out of my players and coaches. I have had the players play capture the flag when we had a practice where I could tell the whole team, players and staff, needed a break (we came off a tough loss and everything was sloppy to the point where I felt we were getting worse, not better) Next practice went a heck of a lot better. It's something I keep in my back pocket for those days
