Tog,
I went to a clinic 2 years ago, the clinic speaker talked about how to use martial art's- hand movements, to counter "O"Lineman's punches to the chest on pass protection. It was some interesting stuff. I taught these techniques to my "D"linemen. I couldn't think of a name to call the drills, so one of my "D"linemen called them Jackie Chan's and the rest is history... who would've ever thought, you could incorporate martial arts to the game of football.

Back in the day we talked about wax on and wax off. I guess the kids today wouldn't know the karate kid, but they would know jackie chan.
A lot of the things I have seen within martial arts seem to really fit into football

now, this isn't really how I teach them to hold on offense, the neck is a little high but the break of the hold technique is really what I have seen many teach

The Perry Rip is one of the most commonly used moves from Martial Arts to football. You can really use many marital art techinques in football. In the trenches it is just another form of hand to hand combat. Mark Miller does clinics all the time as the "Samari Pass Rush" He has many good things you can use, just becarful not to used anything that could hurt another player. I remember the guy showing how to jab fingers into the jugular if an O lineman put the claw around the DL neck (like darth vader) during a rush. The only thing I thought about is the huge law suit that would follow if you ever taught that and some kid ended up having to breath out of tube for the rest of his life.

I teach my linemen to hand fight. I use "GUNS" and "KNIVES. Guns would be like a cowboy doing an exagerated gun draw bringing the hands up and hitting the other mans hand off of you bringing your hands in front of the face ending at either side of the head this put the hands in position for the knives reversing the movement like a stabbing motion like in the movie Psyco. If their is a real aggressive O-lineman than I tell them use only the "KNIVES " technique and punch hands into the chest to move or shock the man back this gives seperation to read the play and find the ball.

Yes Togsan, years ago after many saki's tried to test my old mans strength at ancient age(he was ex- green beret and knew much hand to hand martial arts stuff) So after charging like raging bull and ending up on floor twice(wax on/wax off floor) learned valuable lesson about using ones weight and momentum against them.Remembered this and teach young grasshoppas same same!
