Do any of you have any examples, ideas, etc. regarding an acceptance speech for a new head coach position?
Also looking for first day speech ideas for players, coaches, and parents.
any ideas would be helpful.

Be yourself-say exactly what you believe and explain how you'll do things. You need to be yourself not try to give a canned talk with ideas from others.

My opinion is Less is More. Let them know how excited you are to be their coach. Stress Team/Family/Program. Share your vision of success - again, be brief - but let them know where you want to lead them. Let them know you will be scheduling individual meetings with each player to go over your expectations and goals for them, as well as to get to know them on a personal level. Remember, they won't care how much you know, until they know how much you care.

I just went through this and stuck to the simple principles that fbdoc mentioned. Just be yourself, show some enthusiasm, passion, excitement, while delivering your message and adding some humor can be good as well.

Mission Statements are a great place to start, the Covey book "First Things First' amoung others have a nice Template for developing a mission statement. In business, family or sports everyone needs to understand what the goals are and how you plan on getting there. It needs to be simple and to the point. In business ours was one every single one of my employees could spit out on que and was just one sentence. We were all believers and we were very focused and we accompihsed our goal from extremely meager beginings. Be confident, people are looking to be led, they follow people that have a sense of purpose, can communicate it and are confident in their vision and the end result. In coaching and business we visioned what the end result would be like and often spoke in past tense of accomplishing those goals. Be different, they wont buy into repackaged same old same old. Dont blame your predecessors, it comes off as tackly and unproffessional, do the best with what hand was dealt. Look em all in the eye tell them exactly what you are going to do, why and how you are going to do it, no BS or insincerity, has to be whats in your heart, they will sniff out a snow job.
