I'm CSCS. It helps with the obvious; Knowledge and how to apply it, but I learned alot of the material prior to becoming a CSCS.
It REALLY helps in credibility with parents. Accreditation evaluations of our school tell us that the average college attained by our parents is 4.3 years, meaning that almost everyone has a Bachelor's degree and many have advanced degrees, so our "clientele" is either sophisticated or inclined to think that they know more than they really do. In this day of NCLB and accountability, it really helps to have the paper.
Also, I always demand that our players work out at school with the team. I believe in the old coaching axiom:"How you work out in the weight room is how you'll perform on the field". I use the weight room not only to make the players stronger physically, but stronger as an individual and as a team. In this day and age of personal trainers and street gurus, it helps to have the street cred in the eyes of the players.
The fact that CSCS demands that you continue your education and continue to learn helps. The world has changed a lot in the last five years. Now we train systems and body parts. I remember when we used to only lift and not do anything on field and we also used to lift on Monday, Wednesday and Friday off season, now we lift Monday-Thursday upper body and Tuesday-Friday lower body or systems later in our cycles. The old DeLorme method of 3 sets/10 reps has gone by the wayside for us to.

Coach,
I have a CSCS. Working on my Masters in Sports Science as well. I own a Athletic Development business. The CSCS itself is nice to have as another coach stated it lend credibilty to what you say. Honestly I learned everything from taking the time to read and research and attend seminars on the subject.
Big thing is to keep learning and applying what you learn but like Shortyardage stated it helps when parents know they have someone with credibility training their kids.
