Expected to click on the link and see a dumpster fire of a program and record. And then say don't worry about it your going to roll anyways. I was wrong they are competetive which means they are going to come out with their hair on fire. Your kids need to know and understand that but at the same time they need to know and understand you guys are going to do what you do and they need to focus on thins they can control and impact and this isn't one of them. "Worry about us and what we do, be the best us we can be."

I can not imagine anything that would justify resigning hours before the game. No matter what was going on, at least coach the game to the best of your abilities, then resign afterward. You can't pull this and then claim "I love these kids". This is selfish. I wonder if he also has preached team over the individual to them?

I'd just tell my kids that we're all business. It doesn't matter who we're playing we just do what we do. We only worry about what we can control.

Don't ignore it, take it on and get it our of the way.
I try to preach the mentality all year that every opponent is a nameless faceless opponent who has the misfortune of having to face us. We watch their film to see what they do, but outside of that it doesnt matter who or what they are; we do what we do and they do what they can about it.
Remind the kids its their game, not the opponents. Whether the team on the other side has no head coach or 20, you guys dictate what happens on the field, you dictate who wins or loses.

Once played a team who was laden with natural talent athleticly but ran a very confined system better suited to an over matched team. Had a state top 4 sprinter and hurdler and two high jumpers. All seperate kids. Coach got suspended on Tues by school board for making comments about administration to the paper. We prepped for the offense they ran on film. They came out in spread and chucked it all over and throttled us. And we weren't bad. Next week, coach comes back and they go back to running right over center.

I once coached against a team who had similar talent. Two kids had gone to state in track and they had a 230lb RB with some wheels. They had a pair of huge OL (like 6'6", 300lbs with athletic ability huge) who had multiple D-1 offers. Anyway, the week rolled around and for some reason, we saw on film that they either: A.) Would put their two D-1 prospect OL in the backfield as FBs and ran them up the middle to nowhere from a Power I look B.) If that wasn't working, they'd jump into a pistol formation and tried to throw the ball around with a very mediocre QB. The big RB carried it like 6 times all night, one of which was a dive that went for a 60 yard TD, and then he never got the ball again. The two track stars spent the whole night split out at WR and touched it like 3 times combined. It made our jobs much, much easier. We won by over 50. They eventually fired that coach, but not until a couple of years later. He and his staff liked to whine about how they just didn't have the athletes to compete and how pitiful their kids' attitudes were.

I have zero clue why this guy resigned. It could be a good reason or a bad reason. I don't know. I just know a few years ago I saw a guy resign on Tuesday morning and I thought that was ridiculous. Hours before game is really wild.

coaching looking over your shoulder! been there. if you cannot run the show like you want, if powers that be are always questioning whats going on, why this, why that, then regardless of anything, you cannot work like that. i was there and told myself to go out and work my butt off just like I always had. had a couple incidents to start the season, neither were anyone in the programs fault, and from that point on i could feel the seat getting hot. after the season I asked and was told to enjoy the offseason and be ready to go in spring. i was let go a month b4 spring football. everyone could see it, but me.
i commend the guy for standing up for his values. hindsight is 50/50(heard that along time ago, thought it made more sense than 20/20, lol). i should have walked away, but was blinded by ego and pride and not giving up on my kids....
