We do weekly themes and show a short video on Friday afternoon to go along with it. Anyone got any ideas or one they have used?

What are some examples of things you've done in the past?

I am new to the staff so I really do not know. But each staff member takes a week so I am looking to the future for my week.

Not sure about video or what to go with it. Saw something one day about water boiling at 212° and I randomly brought it up breaking down defensive team that same day. Connected it with effort and it's kind of been our thing/phrase. "Boil the water." I'm shocked how it's caught on.

Years ago (when I was just a baby coach) I worked at a private school who's HC wanted to do something like this, only from the Bible. He wanted to have a weekly theme of "biblical football".
My 1st suggestion was just take the field and smite somebody.
I suppose I missed my "calling".
I'm not in favor of weekly themes. They're just more stuff that kids think is more schoolwork.

I think the themes work more if it's truly a part of what you are. If it's just something you're going to talk about, I believe it's going to sound forced and come off not authentic. Here's an idea for you about a concept I am going to talk to our players about soon. Sacrifice
Tidbits are - why do I wake up every day 4am and leave 14 hours later? Why does one of my assistant have his wife/kids siting in the car hanging around during our practice? Why does my other assistants give up their free time (unpaid volunteer) to be here? Parents/guardians busting their butts so you can have a roof/food over your head? teachers working past their school hours so you can learn? Sacrifice, we all do this for the team (for you). I've described the team as a living, breathing, organism and everything we do is for the team so it can thrive. Sacrifice, just because you don't see it doesn't mean it isn't happening. This is bigger than just about "YOU", life is bigger than just being about YOU and the moment you realize that....
this ties into what I preach everyday which is that players represent more than just themselves, (it would be easy and selfish to just think about yourself all the time) they represent that last name they carry on their backs, their family, their coaches, their teammates, their school and before they decide to make a decision, think about all that. (and if they make a dumb decision well they just sh*tted on all of the above mentioned)

We use them. We have 10 Core Values we refer to as "The Tokay Way". We emphasize that core value throughout each game Week.
