My question is this: How many games do you play based on your state's guidelines? Please break it down like this How many scrimmages are you allowed (this is vs other opponents not your own team)? How many regular season games are you allowed? And then what percentage of teams make the playoffs (that is, how many teams get an EXTRA game)?
The reason I am asking is in our state we are not allowed scrimmages. We have 9 regular season games. 50% of the teams make the playoffs in most of our classes of football. My teams class gets 33% into the playoffs. I feel like our gets get fewer games and have less of a chance at more games than most teams out there. State champ in our classification would get 13 games.

Nebraska:
Smaller schools (Classes C and D- range is about 350 and under) play 8 regular season games. 5 playoff games- 13 to win (or lose) state championship.
Larger schools (Classes A and B... about 351 +) play 9, with 4 playoff games.
This system has been in place since 2002. Prior to that, everyone had a 9 game schedule with 4 rounds in the playoffs.
We are now allowed to scrimmage at all.... sort of. While we can not have any pre-season scrimmages once practice starts, we can do about what we want in the summer at camps, etc. We had about eight 30-40 play scrimmages in the summer at team camps, and had six 7 on 7 games.
As I wrote on another thread, across the board we have about 50% who qualify for playoffs in each class (Class A has a slightly larger percentage than the rest).

Pennsylvania:
2 scrimmages 10 regular season games Up to 6 playoff games % of teams in playoffs varies greatly depending upon both Class and District (I know of a AAA team that "plays up" in AAAA because a higher % of teams make the playoffs in that Class and District).

IN NC scrimmages I believe are measured in hours or at least they used to be. We have 2 scrimmages and a jamboree. 11 regualar season games 5 game playoffs. Probably 2/3 of teams make those playoffs. At the school I am at practice officially starts Aug 1 and you cant make plans until after Thanksgiving.

CA - North Coast Section
2008 - Practice starts 08/18. No scrimmages until 08/29-30.
Week 0 is 09/05.
11 weeks to play 10 games.
Last game 11/15.
Playoffs start 11/22. 3-4 playoff games, depending on division, for section championship. BCS-type selection for state championship - 3-divisions.
After school is out and the final round of the CIF golf championship has ended the NCS basically goes to sleep. We could hold 2/day practices in full pads and scrimmage other teams. They wake up again when practice starts in August. We have normally hosted a week-long contact camp for 5 other teams.

WASHINGTON Unlimited spring/summer from end of May through August 1 The state governing body won't regulate this window, but local school districts and boards may make it less open.
1 jamboree (must have 10 practice in) 10 regular season games Some schools will play a 10th game while others go into some type of playoff scenario. Almost 5 weeks of post season - some could play up to 5, some could only play up to 4 (usually the league champs)

In IL, no scrimmages vs. other teams. We play a nine game regular season schedule. I don't know the exact percentage, but I would guess almost 50% of the teams make the playoffs. Any team that goes 6-3 or better gets in automatically and almost all 5-4 teams get in. State champs and runner ups will play a fourteen game season.

Pennsylvania 3 Scrimmages 11 Games Ummmm not to start a fight but your wrong on that. Your allowed 2 scrimmages and up to 10 reg. season games. If your scrimmaging 3 times and playing 11 games I would look out for the big bad PIAA coming after you

Pennsylvania 3 Scrimmages 11 Games According to PIAA rules: First game this year was Friday, August 31st. Last game was Saturday, November 3rd. This 10 week schedule allows for 10 games. Every team that I have been associated with has played 10 games. I'd be curious to know how you played 11 games in this period!

In AZ 1 pre-season scrimmage and generally 10 regular season games but can be 11. We'll play 11 because we play in a pre season kick off classic and you can get an 11th game if it helps another school complete their 10 game regular season. Advancing into the play-offs is based on a power point system (a region champ automatically qualifies regardless of power points aquired) with 16 schools in our classification (out of about 40 schools) advancing. If you advance to the finals you'll play either 14 or 15 games.

Florida
11 weeks to play 10 games. Also allowed a Pre-Season "classic" game or a jamboree. No scrimmages at present time although the coaches advisory committee to the FHSAA (I'm a member) tried to get one added for 2008. It failed but probably will make it in 2009. Depending on the level, playoffs usually last 4 weeks.

Ok I will give you Thanksgiving Day as an 11th game, although I would say that is very specific to certian areas in E.PA. Not many if any teams in the west do that game. I am pretty sure they need permission to play that game as the PIAA states maximum number of regular season games as 10. But the maximum number of scrimmages is 2 if your having 3 I would be careful not to broadcast that since its pretty much Illegal by the PIAA.
