I've been to Missouri,Memphis,Arkansas St. and Iowa St. over the past couple of years. I was wondering what are some other good places to hit? I've been thinking about going to West Virginia or Northwestern. Has anyone ever went to spring ball there?

Spring Game, or Spring Practices?
Personally, I think ANY college (esp D1) is worth dropping in on their Spring Practices to check their tempo, coaching points, and organization.

I've been to UVA, Maryland, Shepard University (DII WV), West Chester U, North Carolina, and VTech. All of them were very good experiences and opened up to us coaches. UVA, Tech, and West Chester really let us get down and dirty with them...
Plan on going to WVU this spring- I believe the firast week of April...

go to any school that uses a system similar to what you do or is using something you intend to install. if you call ahead early enough you can often set up meetings with the staff or be allowed to sit in on positional & team player meetings before practice

what huey said.
the best place to go is somewhere that runs stuff similar to what you do or want to do.

Hey....for the sake of DISCUSSION....maybe we could discuss WHAT you can expect / intinerary for the visits...?
Some of the best visits I've had, involved sitting down with the coaches, picking their brain, being allowed to use their video room and call up games / cutups, watching practices, and at times (not in practice) talking with the players.

best one i have ever been to using your criteria brophy would have been Jeff Tedford when he was at Oregon, he used to kcik all the HS coaches out and talk to us middle school coaches at length. Used to pick his brain and do his :checker" sessions.

If you can find a college that will allow your staff to go visit their staff - do it!
If you are from the Midwest, the Bowling Green staff makes themselves available to high school coaches every Friday, all day long, up until spring ball. Just call ahead. They have been very helpful with our staff. Plus, thier spring clinic is great!

My suggestion would be to simply choose the program that RUNS WHAT YOUR TRYING TO RUN. Other than the benefit of picking up additional coaching points, observing practice decorum, etc. Why waste time somewhere looking at something that will not aid YOUR program? Having coached in Florida for many years, and sending any number of players to both the Gators and the Seminoles, it was very nice to have those two major schools within driving distance to observe their methods, etc. But, running the bone, it was a trip to little nondescript CARSON NEWMAN that gave us so much more of what we really needed to run the option! That, for example, is where I picked up one of the most important tecniques that greatly affected my win-lost record more than any one single pointer I ever received. It was what changed me on the spot from a ride and decide guy to becoming a true convert of the POINT THE BALL method. I utilized the technique for close to 20 years on both the HS level and the pro minor league level, right up until my retirement last year. Best of luck with whatever decision you make.

I will opine this.....If you feel comfortable coaching what you coach, it is always nice to see how the other half lives......
I have gained some great concepts from observing different schemes that I don't run (learn how to play against them....get to steal what works for them and how it can be applied to our scheme) as well gaining a deeper perspective (gaining more respect for a foreign system) on that which I am unfamiliar with.

sometimes you need to get the opportunity to see how they handle the program and less about the scheme...i am not a spread option type of guy, but would love to see how Urban runs his program (specifically accountability) and adding even one thought is alwasy worth it

I normally go to Iowa State Northwestern, and Wisconsin, as well As Notre Dame's clinic. They have all been very good to me in terms of allowing me to watch film. Howeevr Notre Dame is changing with charlie Weiss there know. As he doesn't let anyone come in and watch film. Some NFL policy BS
