I need some thoughts on 4 day camp. We are in the deep south. Practice 2 or 3 times per day? And great team building activities would be greatly appreciated.

Don't forget to let them bond and have some fun the last hour of two of camp. We have a watermelon eating contest. Each class selects a champion to compete for their "pride". They have a half a watermelon and three minutes to eat. They cannot use their hands. A teammate can hold the watermelon but cannot help. An unbiased coach "LOL" is the sole judge. The losers have to do the tough cleaning, trash pick-up, and loading of equipment when we leave. We give the freshmen the win if it is even close. Drives the seniors crazy!

Seriously, mid-day is a good time to work on weight-training to keep them out of the heat. We add an extra activity we call the hydration station to our workout or circuit training, they have to chug a 32 ounce water bottle before going to the next lift. You know these kids do not drink enough water. We work on mental aspects of the game such as 2-minute drill, kick-off coverage, specialists, chalk-talks, film sessions, and such. We do not allow any PSP, GameBoys, playing cards, or anything like that at camp. We collect all the cell-phones and lock them up. We give every parent two of our coaches' cell phone numbers for emergency. We watch one football movie at night in our bunks or in a meeting area before bed. We let the seniors pick the movie, last year they watched Varsity Blues two nights in a row. They love that Ms. Daisy. lol If you are not practicing in the morning and evening and doing something in the mid-day to improve knowledge or build team unity you are wasting your time in my opinion. Don't always save conditioning for after the last evening practice. Change up the routine a little. This may not be what you are looking for but I hope it helps.
