Three of our players showed up for the Sanitation Station (pooper scooper) detail this morning in the Irish Days Parade in Murphys. They did a good job, keeping things clean for the parade. The organizers arrange the parade so there are two groups/clumps of horse entries so that's why they want 4 players - 2 players per group. They didn’t have any problems doing this detail and thought it was a good experience. They knew exactly what it was, no illusions there, but they seemed to be happy that their efforts were appreciated by the crowd and by the organizers.
My wife ran into the parade organizer on Monday afternoon, they got to talking about things, and the next thing I knew she had volunteered the team. I was glad that these players volunteered and it worked out for us. This earned the team $200 for doing 40 minutes of walking and shoveling. The players were impressed because they got a lot of good comments from the crowd. My wife said that she heard several comments from the crowd, she was working the Tanner Winery booth next to the hotel, where the people were very glad to see the football players giving back to the community, they thought it was really cool that our players did this. The parade announcers had a nice write up that my wife did about the team and the players, so all in all, this was a very good thing for us to have done.
I talked with the organizer and this looks like it will be a yearly thing for us, they will start making detailed arrangements in December. Not a lot of $, but the time and effort is minimal and the goodwill the players/team get is very real so that makes it worthwhile.
