Our staff is looking at changing up practice and I am hoping the followers on this site can help me out. We are looking to find out how other teams practice. I'm wanting to collect practice plans so we can find ways to better use our time in practice but still get the reps we need to have success. Post, PM, or email would work.

Anything you can help out with would be welcome. Our info. We are a school of 1200 with low FB numbers (60 for grades 10-12 on good years). Several kids have to play both ways, so not true platoon.

What kind of O and D because that will vary your periods? Or are just looking in general?

13 years ago I joined the staff of a former college head coach in his 2nd year, taking over the worst program in the state. He had two basic philosophies about practice: 1 - never practice more than 2 hours, 2 - the tempo should be so fast that the players are exhausted afterwards. In the 9 years I was there we won 91 games, 4 conference championships, and 1 state championship (should have been 2 but we were DQ'd from the playoffs one year because of a paperwork error). I left 4 years ago to become a head coach and I have adopted these 2 philosophies. I took over a program that had 3 winning seasons in 15 year. We've had 4 straight, and won 9 games each of the last 2 year. In the last 13 years, the teams I have been on have conditioned after practice only a handful of times, and these were days where our tempo in practice was bad. Our kids know that if they bust their humps for 2 hours, they are done. Not sure if this is the type of thing you're looking for, but its something I believe in.

With 60 kids you can, and should, practice as one group, and that can allow platooning.
Platoon is definitely the way to go! Build one team and your second string will be your JV.
With platoons, you get more kids on the field, they have more fun playing and thus are likely to return. Numbers usually begin to increase and kids can specialize in their positions. When kids specialize you can be a little more complex in what you do on both sides of the ball.
With that idea implemented your practices will go fast, get more accomplished and you will probably see fewer injuries.
You will see that your practices are over in 2 hrs. or less (special teams included) and the team plays better.

Odd front def. 3-4. Maybe some 3-3 stack Im taking over as OC, we have had success with wing t and hybrid wing t. I want to have a sound run game, ball control offense with play action passes. We are just wanting to see how other schools organize practices. So we can be efficient with time. Weve done the same set up for a long time and realize we need to change.

Dont feel like its the beat way to get things done. Always seems to be kids standing round not doing something football related. We havent had much success at our school and want to change practice along with the culture.

Bingo blb Seems to me, if you have realized you need change, that means you have identified errors/mistakes/areas needing improvement. What are those areas? Edit-- you identified kids just standing around. When? At what portion of practice? Team? That's going to happen sometimes, particularly if you are just repping 16-17 kids because you have several 2 way players and a 60 man roster.

Like many teams, we feel there isnt much depth and the drop off between our 1s and 2s isnt making things competitive consistently. We want to get more bodies involved so we can build the depth while being sure our 1s are getting the work in they need to feel comfortable with the weekly gameplan.
And we want the jv/soph to have time to learn and be coached as well. I dont want it to be we are a varsity team and send parts to play jv games. Am i wrong to think that is how it cant be?

In our state at schools your size the Junior Varsity is usually composed entirely of Sophomores, have their own coaches, and practice separately from the Varsity (Juniors and Seniors).
That would eliminate some of the "standing around" you've experienced and "send(ing) parts to play jv games."

JV and Var share staff. We tried it when O vs scout D the D coaches work with JV/soph parts and vice versa. But then coaches seem to disappear and it's one guy trying to fun all the JV o and D.

Coach, that doesn't really sound like a practice plan problem as it does a professionalism problem, or a HC leadership/expectation problem.

Those arent totally out of the question. I know i want to coach as many kids i can in the time that i have at any level. Having the other varsity coaches around will make JV/soph feel like they are valued as well. My guys questioned their role when we were sent off to do our own thjng while the varsity guys got coached.
Where in your practices do your non-varsity guys get the reps they need to compete in their games? We wont have a jv staff. Usually just 2 guys, 1 O and one D. Scrimmage frosh one day a week.
