the thread on evolution got me thinking.
how did you evolve as a coach? meaning how many of you came up through the ranks.
i started as a junior high assistant (1 year), then junior high coordinator (1 year), then head freshman (1 year), then head jv/varsity assistant (3 years), then oc (current 1 year), (and hopefully hc).

2 years JV Head (different schools) 3 years varsity assistant 2 years Head Varsity coach
Yes I did skip a step. I was never a coordiantor before getting a head job. Working as an assistant I only really worked under 1 coach who I believed ran a good program. I got very frustrated and decided to apply for every head job out there. I would love to be a loyal assistant somewhere and spend a little more time at home but good "programs" are hard to come by. Good teams are a dime a dozen.

I guess the next logical question other than chronology of becoming a coach would be how you developed into the schemes/systems you use.

I am more open to new wrinkles or ideas than when I was younger. My leadership style has changed from autocratic and authoritarian to more inclusive and positive.
