If you had a choice , what would it be:
A)An [glow=red,2,300]above average [/glow]O-line with [glow=red,2,300]below average [/glow]skill position players or
B) [glow=red,2,300]above average [/glow]skill position players with [glow=red,2,300]below average [/glow]O-linemen.
What would you choose?
I would take the above average Line w/ the below average talent. I like to run the ball, so I figure with a solid front, I would be able to do just that...

I'll take the above average OL. Can I also make the assumption that the TEs are above average as BLOCKERS...not neccesarily recievers. I think if you have a poor OL with above above average skill guys who might make more big plays BUT you will lack consistancy. So I take above average OL.

I'll say O-Line, I think as long as I've got some hard-workers I can make some chicken salad out of chicken scratch with my other guys, but I'd like to know what kind of QB I have. If I have a guy who can break tackles in the backfield and get outside the pocket and maybe make some throws, maybe I'll take my chances with the lesser OLine

It's gotta be the Line. Life is bad if your line isn't any good.

for the sake of argument, I say skill players. two wing backs which can run like the wing, run the double wing and bam, you have a great offense.

I feel you can make an o-line better by running the option, blocking on angles, zone blocking. If a kid in the backfield is slow and unathletic there isn't much you can do. I would take the backfield because I know o-linemen can get a lot better with hard work and reps.
The trick is to make all your backup full backs and tight ends o-line and pull and trap the hell out of people.

i do like a good oline. however in the passing game your typical olineman are not what is needed. in the passing game you need a agile, mobile and hostile line.
knowing this, fatboys play defense. give my your typcial fullback and I will make a great pass protector out of him.

well Big D I too would have to concer with the consensus of the group and go with the OLINE, but would have to add that if that was truely the case I would also push real hard to develop a dang good special teams too in order to mainain the field position game.

get a body on a body & occupy a guy for just a half-a-half-a-second & let the stud with the ball in his hands do the work.
why is the cut-back a big play?...... BECAUSE WE COULDN'T BLOCK 'EM FRONTSIDE, otherwise, he wouldn't have to cutback

yessir.......... SPEED KILLS!!! if you got it, you got a chance. now, i'm not saying the OL is not an important aspect of the team...you need it all to win it all. BUT, give me some guys that can "shield" for a bit (i.e. just zone to get a body on a body) with a speedy, stud skill kid in the backfield & i'm happy with our chances. those studs can make something out of nothing more often than the "rooty-poot" back that turns 10 yd runs into 4 yd gains. isn't this why the spread was first "invented"? get the ball into the hands of the 1 true playmaker, & give him space to create. OL is important, but, again, if they can just occupy for the stud, i'll take my chances.

In the double wing, you need eleven offensive linemen. The ball is only a necessary evil, so one of them has to carry it.

skill all day everyday.
what huey said about the cut back and such is right on the mark.
besides with a great oline coach, you can make those guys up front better with reps and a little lovin'. you can't turn 5.0 into 4.4, i don't care who you are.

Interesting philosophies being tossed around. I personally have been on both sides of this debate. We have had an above average OL and I am not going to say below average athletes b/c they were pretty good but not the best we have ever had and we went 12-2 and 11-3 3rd rd playoffs. This past year we graduated all our varsity OL from the year before and had 5 jrs who had never played before on the OL and the best athletes we have ever had at QB, RB, and WR. We did manage the second rd of the playoffs but were only 7-6 overall.

after watching some film of out team last year, I may change my mind. We had some huge holes in a couple of games, but our 4th string and 5th string backs couldn't hit them (and we're talking about the double wing here . They couldn't even get to them. When 1 of our top 3 backs returned from injury we began running the heck out of the ball because he could actually get to the hole before it closed up.
