Now ...I know that all us coaches at one time or another use (steal, borrow) other coaches ideas....but how about a clinic based on another staffs ppt that was given the year before?
Prime Example... I went to San Angelo Clinic and saw school A talk about 3-4 defense...PPT was excellent and I even had the coach email me the (Animated)ppt..
Then I get a clinic video that has another school talking about the 3-4 and uses the exact same format ... Animation Hyperlinks etc. only minor things were changed such as school name, font colors and terminology
Then they use the same PPT as the basis for their presentation on the 3-4 and go slide by slide what I just saw at the San Angelo Clinic
Now is this ethical? To be so blatant about it?
Now even funnier was the fact that the other school that originally made the ppt was also there later to speak I wonder what they thought

Is that a Dinobot avatar?!!!!!!!!
Oh sorry, back to topic. I would hope "school A" was asked beforehand about the ppt being used. Did they at least provide their own film clips?

In most professional areas, that would be considered plagarism and there would be a problem.

Not saying its right or wrong, just curious......Did the team that stole the slides from another team have an obligation to speak?
Sometimes I find that coaches who have an obligation to speak at a clinic (just won the state championship, state association wants you to speak) will just use some filler. I've seen it happen in the past. They use something they got off the internet simply so they have something to use and can take care of their obligation.
AGain, not saying it is right to do it under any situation, just wondering......

Not a filler .... The ppt was very good and they probably used it to coach their kids and then just reused it at the clinic even though they had borrowed, plagiarized etc. from another team
I don't mind using another persons idea to make my own ppt ....but the whole thing??
And that would be Grimlock

I have also seen this happen at a clinic. I saw a guy one time speak on coverages and it was the same one that Air Force has out on coverages. All the guy did was change the terms and the color to fit his system and school colors. I was really ticked off because I went to the session to learn some new information regarding coverages and I ended up watching someone give a PPT from someone else. Also, I already had a copy of the original PPT.
I do agree with the other coaches on the thread that all football coaches do "Borrow" from one another. I myself do this. I only beef is that if you are asked to speak and present at a clinic, that you need to put in the time and effort into come up with a well thought out presentation. If not, then simply decline the offer.
I have spoke a clinics before and just resently presented at a local high school clinic where I was asked to speak on a topic for one hour. I spend at least 8-10 hours total putting together my presenetation for the coaches that were there. This included getting together my PPT with my cut ups and handouts for the coaches. I hope that they got something out of it. I know one thing for sure that at least it was an original PPT with original cut ups in it.

Pretty cheesy thing to do with the PPT. Borrowing is one thing, Plagiarism is another.
