both are great. young has more rushing yards. montana wasn't immobile by any means. can't really put into stats or words why i like montana more....just something about the way he carried himself and led the team.

well, with that ol and rb you could just hand it off every time
unless they were going against that defense

jim brown - great choice at running back
lawrence taylor - has any one player (maybe add bob hayes) changed the way games are played. his raw athleticism really made teams change the way the looked at protection schemes....and it made teams look at how they used their athletes on defense.
hayes may have had similar impacts on secondary coverage and how the game was looked at vertically

Coach Huey -
Great point about LT...he is probably the single biggest reason that left offensive tackles are multimillionaires!

still can't believe no one has mentioned the bullet bob hayes. i think what he did had a major impact on the game as we know it. who are some other trailblazers? some may consider michael vick as one of those "game-changers". i will say he did - at the college level - affect how teams recruit & use their qb. he's play also created a variety of defensive schemes designed to contain & handle the athletic qb that could throw. i will wait until career is over to make judgement on his nfl impact (nfl gurus may feel randall cunningham already "blazed" the trail)

Good lists, I like John Unitas at QB if he has to call his own plays, how bout Deacon Jones at one DEF. end, Bob Lilly or randy white at def. t with joe greene? Bob hayes sure did change the game(olympic class sprinter at wide reciever) way before Willie Gault and others! I like your DB picks there Tog (all 4 bay area teams) I remember a story about ronnie lott losing part of a finger in a facemask and playing out the game(how many guys would do that?)

my list would look similiar to wildkat....but I could not have a team without CB Deion Sanders...that guy was unreal in his prime! Maybe Dan Hampton at DT Rod Woodson / Ronnie Lott ....I couldn't think of a better duo save STEVE ATWATER.....
Also, gotta love Sweetness and Jim Brown, but I'd also take a Marshall Faulk in his prime ('99) that guy was unstopable.

Good one, Peg! The Mad Stork! Tough to get outside those wings! I like Deion for a cover corner also and he would make an ugly tackle occassionally. Gotta have Butkus in there somewhere for the fear factor. Still like Earl Campbell and Walter Payton though!(Tough guys) Might have Rathman at fullback. QB is still John Unitas all the way, baby! Love those hightops!

Sorry for this slight detour but after seeing Marshall faulk and Barry Sanders on the list I started thinking about Barry "bannana" Sanders playing in the Rams Offense.
Now back to our regularly scheduled program...
Peg good list but I would still rather have Joe Montana, Elway or even Jim Kelly before Favre.
Actually Great offense list other than previous listed preference. Imagine going three wide with Bary in the backfield and Sharp at TE or Moose as H-Back.
---I think I may have to go borrow a Madden PS2 game from somebody and put that together.

Shannon Sharp was a tremendous NFL player. He is one of those guys who just didn't play long enough to establish himself as one of the greats, be he was a very exciting player to watch.

Hey coach huey, don't forget Sonny Jurgenson and Billy Kilmer as trailblazers for Cunningham and Vick.

Offense is pretty stout Tog, I would want barry Sanders as my change of pace back to go with Czonka. The line is almost perfect, but I would like Mike Webster at Center.
Defense I would trade Carson for Butkus or Nitzke (spelling?). And as much as I hate him, Dieon was probably one of the best cover corners IMO.

Harry Carson was a heckuva football player...biggest problem he had was playing the same position at the same time as Samurai Mike.
In fact, the Giants might have had one of the best all-time LB corps with Carson, Pepper Johnson, and LT playing together.

Sweetness was a great blocker, so I'll run the wishbone, Payton at Fullback, Barry and Sayers at the RB spots. Kellen Winslow at TE with Rice at WR

i gotta go with farve because he was the most durable qb ever, and i love the gun slinger mentality. Holla I think that Favre should have retired five years ago. He was a great player, but his time has passed. I'm really getting sick of all the talk about how he doesn't have any talent around him in Green Bay anymore. This past weekend, he was horrible against the Bears. He threw two picks. Lucky it wasn't 6!

i agree 100% with that. but most guys play too long, that doesn't reduce thier greatness or place on this list. i mean deion is on most lists and he has no business playing today.

Should they retire for the FANS or for themselves? How difficult would it be to quit playing when; 1) You still are ultra competitive 2) You are still healthy
I read, "Next Man Up" and it talks about how Deion finally convinced himself he didn't want to stay retired....
My $0.02.....also Deacon Jones @ DE (can't beat a whack upside your head) and OL Conrad Dobler....hey, cmon!
