With Thanksgiving upon us, I was just wondering what some people remember from games you have watched on Thanksgiving. For example, didn't Eddie Payton win a game for the Detroit Lions over the Bears on a kick return for a TD in overtime? And Randy Moss had a monster game for the Vikings against the Cowboys several years ago. What are some other Thanksgiving football highlights?

Was it a Thanksgiving game when Leon Lett fumbled it away vs. the Dolphins in the snow in Dallas?

I am pretty grateful that I have played in one of the greatest highschool rivalry's in the country and now I coach for my old high school and every thanksgiving day game feels the exact same way it felt when I was playing. It's the Westerly (RI) vs. Stonington (CT) Rivalry and these two teams have played eachother approx. 150 times, starting back in 1911. I'm pretty sure the games played between the two schools is the most in the country and one of the oldest as well. Ofcourse I was the MVP my senior year (1999) but we tied 14-14 so it was bittersweet.

I remember as a kid being at Deer Camp with my Dad and other close family friends. We would always listen to the Oklahoma Vs. Nebraska game on the radio...One year we fired up the Generator and watched it on TV. I think it was year that Tommy Frazier broke his leg on (Not sure on that). Anyways great times.

Dont have a whole lot of actual thanksgiving memories-usually eating and sleeping while the games are on. However 3 times in 7 years we have played in the playoffs the day after thanksgiving, and they were the 3 toughest losses ever.
2002-We are 12-1 team we are playing is 12-0-1. They are so much bigger and faster than us its not even funny. (They had no OL under 300 lbs our DE were 165 a piece) They dominate 1st half, lead 14-0 at half. We come back and take the lead 21-17 with a couple of minutes left. On 4th and 1 near the 50 we miss two tackles in the backfield and they get a 1st. Next play they throw the bomb when our DB slips and falls. We lose 24-21. They blow out opponent in state championship game the next week 42-0
2004-We are tied 28-28 with 4 minutes left. We are driving and its getting loud. Center snaps the ball early and soph. QB wasnt ready for it. He panics and just throws it up. They pick it and then grind it in from 50 yards out to win.
2006-We lead 26-10 with 10 min to go. They throw a pick we try to return it out of our own end zone and fumble it back to them. They score on the next play 26-17. We punt, pin them deep, hold them 3 and out, but then muff the punt, they recover in our territory, score. 26-24. We get the ball back-3 min left, QB checks b/c he is tired and doesnt want to run the ball anymore (all 3 of our RBs are hurt). He checks to a pass, it gets picked on our own 20. They score, lead 30-26. We get the ball back, go right down the field, score with 1:39 to go, retake the lead, 33-30. The return the kickoff for a TD to go ahead 36-33. We get stopped at the 10 when time runs out.
3 pretty tough and sickening losses. However, practicing on Thanksgiving is a wonderful thing and I am thankful for those opportunities.

I believe that was the last time the dolphins won a game! Leon Lett has a couple of huge brain farts in front of billions of people. Miami and Buffalo. Not too many boys from Emporia St. playing in the NFL, but he got them some free pub.
What I remember most is watching games with my Dad. I miss those days.

I don't have any specific games in mind, but didn't Barry Sanders turn in some great performances on Thanksgiving over the years?

Ron Dayne's run vs. Dallas in '05 to set up game winning FG in OT was pretty good.

I'll always remember the snow game in Dallas, Barry Sanders making the Bears look stupid, John Madden and the mutant turkeys and watching games with my dad.

By the way- Thanksgiving is the greatest holiday EVER. EVER I say!!
Think about it. It's based around these three principles. 1. Eating a TON. 2. Taking a nap 3. Watching football
Does it get better than that?

Greatest Thanksgiving tradition is that every year since we graduated high school the guys from my class who played football get together and play again. Every year we play, then we go back to our respective towns and cities, back to our lives. But one day a year we are all there.
