Hey guys, tomorrow is our first night of practice. Any good ideas for a schedule? We run a wing-T offense and will have alot of new players. Should we mostly do agilities/condition, or should we be getting into our offesne/defense right away. Thanks.

We use our first four days to condition. We do 8 agility and quickness drills for 2-3 minutes each. We do that curcuit three times. It separates the quitters from the guys who really want to be there. On the fifth day we distribute pads and hit the second week, we put our plays in there. A few guys quit on the hitting, but most of those guys have already quit from the conditioning.
This schedule really keeps us from wasting time on the guys who are going to quit when things get tough, and allows us to focus on the guys who are going to "be there" all season long.
We start practice on August 1st, play a jamboree on August 23rd, and play our first game on August 30th. If you have less time than that, this may not be a viable option for you.

Agility and Special Teams are a great way to spend the first couple of days. The Special Teams circuit is football specific but it also allows you to work with larger groups in general skills such as Long snap, Kick, Punt, and Catching. During our 2 a days we will put our team (usually around 30 in grades 9-12) into 5 groups - the 4 skills I just mentioned plus 40 yd. dash. They spend approximately 10 minutes with a coach getting instruction and taking reps at the skills. Those who show the aptitude will get call backs on the next day while the others will go to other skills areas (such as extra O-line practice!). It also allows a "fun" aspect for some of those O-line guys to catch a punt or kick and show us their moves - although the 40 yard dash station follows the return station so they are usually brought back to reality fairly quick.
