I've been going through a lot of our data and numbers from last season, and it made me wonder how much other people use the HUDL breakdown data.
Like, we were extremely predictable last year. But won 10 games, and scored tons of points. Out of 11 categories in the "what's next" breakdown, 7 of them all lead to us running the same play.
If I had these numbers about a team I was going to play, I'd be damn excited because I'd be able to know pretty well what they were going to do.
So, how much do you guys use the HUDL data and everything that goes with it?
And, no, I don't want this to get into a discussion of metrics and things like that. I just want to know if other people use all of the HUDL breakdowns, and if you don't, why not?

For scouting other teams offense. I use - yard line - hash- down - distance- formation - formation strength - backfield - play type - Off play - play strength - yards gained -
If teams are option I'll tag who keeps the ball If a team has personnel packages I'll tag that as well.
Now, I break down 3 games, but I don't always include all the data when I run reports. I may use my game from last year if they have the same skill kids back and are running the same plays. If the score is lopsided I might only include the first half. And I may only include teams that have a 4 man front if it looks like they did something different against an odd front etc.

Mattman2,
just curious why you chart who keeps the ball on option plays? If it is a true triple option, or double for that matter would not the ball carrier be determined by the QB's read? Does not seem to be an advantage to have this info. I wouldn't want to tell my guys that 50% of the time the QB Keeps, 25 % he gives and 25 % he pitches. All of a sudden players start playing the QB and ignoring their option responsibilities which is just what the OC wants. No ?

You don't have to tell the players the percentage of times the QB gives, keeps, or pitches the ball. Some option teams will rarely/never pitch it regardless of what read they get, or the QB will rarely/never keep it regardless of what read he gets. Some teams will always give it when a certain player is at FB.

If there is a high percentage of give/ QB/ pitch, it could allow you to:
1) Give your high safety a definite key: instead of QB to pitch say "straight to QB" or "run alley now" 2) decide to slow play pitch or attack pitch right now 3) run tighter techniques to make closing on dive easier

Not all teams read it every time. Also, it helps me later, when watching film, figure out who they are reading. Ex. A team is running the zone read with a bubble. And they threw the bubble 7% of the time. I want to know if they are actually reading that or is it called. It helps me locate the play faster when studying the film.

Coach, I handle all the breakdown for us offensively. I do a couple things week to week.
1. I always run a self-scout. What are we doing, out of what formations, and more specifically with relation to D & D. 2. What fronts, stunts, blitzes and coverages as it pertains to D & D, position on field and vs. what formation? 3. Who is touching the ball for us? When and where are we getting them the ball? 4. Run/Pass based on D & D
There is other stuff we do. I try to give he HC and other coaches all the data the need and they can choose what is important based on that week's opponent.

I'm our DC and my HC has me scout our offense as another opponent as opposed to them doing a self scout.
