Watch the movie Invinceable again the other day. I know it's just a movie but I can belive that Dick Vermeil would throw up.
I didn't get that nervous when I was playing nor do I now. I get the jitters but not so bad that I'm making pizzas in a stall somewhere.

As a player - once. As a coach - never. I'm excited to get out there! Even if we're playing someone that I know is just going to kill us, I can't wait to try and get some match ups to try and stop them or move the ball.

Our HC used to when he was younger. Over the years he's gotten better but he's still no fun to be around on game days.

Worked for an HC that dry-heaved for 20-25 minutes before every game. He said he has done so before every game- playing or coaching.

Never. I don't understand why people get so worked up on game days. I do understand some aprehension about the kids performing, but for the most part the preparation and work are all done. Friday nights are fun nights. You get to go out and play and show what you worked for all week long. Now I'm not saying I laugh and joke all night, but I don't get so nervous I puke, because if I was that nervous about it, I should've done something during the week.

To be honest with you guys, I feel like throwing up the closer we get to Friday...
Big test for me...I'm a 1st year offensive coordinator coaching big-time 6A football (been coaching farmer ball for the past 6 years). Also have a brand-new teaching job in a subject area I have never taught before.
I feel like the kids are prepared and that I have done everything I need to get ready, but, that fear of the unknown is still looming...asking myself a lot of "what ifs" lately...
Also, the guy I'm working for is a real class act and gave me a chance when it looked like I might not even have had a coaching job this fall...really don't want to let him and the kids down.

I've thrown up watching tape after the game does that count? Never as a coach. Sleeping the night before games use to be a problem though.

I can honestly say that I have never thrown up from nervousness or having too many- I think- although I did wake up hugging a burrito from Taco Cabana one morning having NO IDEA how the hell it got there. Not to mention the half-chewed Whataburger on my pillow (dang San Angelo is a great clinic) after a long night drinking. I tend to vent nervousness through the other side. Don't know if it's the "fight or flight' tendency, but I have a tendency to blow much #^%$** before a game. I think that if you are that nervous before a game, the kids will pick up on that and play just as tight as you are. I try the "calm and cool" approach, although I don't know how successful I am at it.

As a player, I used to get "butterflies", but it was the excitement of playing in a big game. As a coach, I can't wait to get out there. I'm excited and ready to go. I've never thrown up before playing or coaching in a big game. Luke

First scrimmage tonight and won it with a totally new offense. It looked great on paper and practice but you can never be sure. Was a little nervous but mostly for the kids. I've never thrown up, nothing is worth your health. They say now that stress can cause cancer (among a million other things...) Something to think about before you start taking things too seriously.
My kid threw up once or twice before a game while he was QB. I informed and requested that the coach train another backup QB who actually a better job. Probably because he was less nervous and didn't take it as seriously.

I never puke before games. I love game day. My hardest area is sleep. I find myself dreaming of football and X's and O'x and details. I used to sleep in 45 min to 1 hour stretches on Game eve.
Now I have a pad and pen and write down everything I am thinking about that evening. I make a to-do list of things that come to mind throughout the evening. I read it before I go to bed, and then I sleep better. Usually!.

sleeping the night before a game is a tough task. i never puked before a game, but as a player i would feel an uncontrollable urge to piss right as we were ready to leave the locker room. it was like clockwork. i chalked it up to nervousness

I never threw up, but i always hated putting my mouthpiece in at the beginning of the game, always gagged and got close to puking.
Had a QB I played with that would puke before every game, and usually his nose would bleed with it. It was pretty funny, but we were never ready to go play until he tossed.
