I'd like to watch the movie myself before completely soiling my pants over it
I'm still curious how other sports are looking at this because it is so much bigger than just a "football thing".

I'd like to watch the movie myself before completely soiling my pants over it I'm still curious how other sports are looking at this because it is so much bigger than just a "football thing". The real story isn't that repeated concussions cause brain damage. In old movies they often had a "punchdrunk" old boxer in them so people knew decades ago that getting hit in the head ain't good. The real story is about how the NFL screwed broken down ex-players. That's not news either. I saw a story years ago about how hard it was to get the NFL to approve an application for a disability. What's different is that brain injuries are now being recognized as a job-related injury. The NFL brought it on themselves and now they're trying to slough it off on us.

That's what I expected. In 2013 I worked in a backwater place where the concussion hysteria hit hard. Parents who were on the fence about letting their kids play took in the paranoia and refused to let their boys come out. The kids learned that concussions were the easiest injury to fake and milk. It was a nightmare. I'm not afraid of football dying out, but it is in crisis due to media like this film. We, as coaches, have to accept that and fight back. There is a war on football because fear and pathos sells. What are we going to do about it? The NFL, who's always been extremely shady in how they deal with former players, NCAA, and NFHS should band together to counter this sensationalism in a way that comes across as honest and meaningful, but only one of those entities has a direct, vested interest in the health of the HS game in the short term. The game will survive, but what will the cost be?
