have been part of staff where we had 'co-offensive coordinators'. later, went to a single coordinator but kept responsibilities of the split title. just needed to have clarification on where the buck stopped. it can work but don't see the point of it. i mean, if you have a good coordinator with quality position coaches then duties will be delegated out anyway. our coordinator was an ol coach. he handled the run game. qb coach handled the passing game. went just fine. but, everyone was friends. it really wasn't all that big a deal who had what title or did what. we just wanted to win.

In 2003 I was the passing game coordinator.. We were a Wing-T team.. I was asked to put in a Spread Type Quick passing game.. Whenever the HC, who also called most of the plays wanted to throw it.. he asked what I wanted.. I also suggested a lot of just general plays and he called them.. Last year under a new HC I was simply the RB coach and was the JV OC.. This season I will be the OC..

I think Coldspring or someone did that when the HC died before the season.

Several Nebraska schools have co-head coaches. Reasons are: the previous guy stepped down late; no one wanted the job, so two were "placed in"; one guy is the certified coach, the other is the "football guy"...the co-op situation has a lot to do with it (towns keep their school but combine athletics with a neighboring district), as have consolidations. One of the better programs in our classification has had co-head coaches for several years. I don't know how they do it (I do know that each guy teaches in a different town...that may have something to do with it).

i've got a great title...."typewriter beach" (lol, of course it ain't beach, it's _ _ _ _ _). that was actually written on a coaching assignment sheet several years ago. yes, it was more of a joke but it stuck. seems like i was always the guy with the "computer skills" and was left to do all the dirty work of computers. even after "moving up the chain" i am still politely referred to as the "TB".
having computer skills is valuable but sometimes knowledge ain't always a good thing....lol

"junior high HEAD COACH"- title means you get to deal with administrators and parents but dont get to design and run your own playbook...in some cases, you dont even get to play the kids in the positions YOU want. its a pretty meaningless title anymore.
