Just finished my 20th year of coaching and 3rd as a head coach. Feel like I have seen lots of injuries but had 2 this year that were new to me. First one, my own kid, dislocated his middle finger at the middle joint to the point his hand got lacerated in 2 spots and required 10 stitches. Tendons showing and the whole deal. Did that trying to make a tackle. Second one, stud wide receiver dislocated his hip in the 4th quarter of the last game of the year. Our trainer, who has been at it for 25 years, said it was only the 2nd one he has seen.
My kid missed 2 games, played 2 with a splint and finished with no problems. Wide receiver got good news that just a few weeks of rehab is all he will need and should be good to go for hockey this winter.
Anyone else see some weird stuff this year and hopefully had good endings to them?

Our kicker dislocated his shoulder twice by just kicking in practice. He was working on the other side of the field and next thing we know he's in the training room. I said I've never seen that before.....until he did it again two weeks later. All I could do was shake my head

I've been at my current place now for 2 years. I have never seen so many shoulder injuries in my life. I've encountered 10 kids with "severe" shoulder injuries. 4 have had complete reconstructive surgeries. Not one of them has occurred since I have changed the strength training program, but there are still several of the kids left. Very strange. We got a new trainer this year and she was blown away by it too. She had never seen anything like it.

Not so much a weird injury, but more of a dumb/horrible luck situation for us.
Last year one of our kids tears the ACL in his right knee in the 4th game of the year while covering a punt. No contact, just tries to change direction and it goes. Gets surgury, comes back ready for his senior season. First game of the year he is back to return a punt, the punt is short and he turns to run away from the ball. Tears the ACL in his left knee. Felt so bad for the kid

We had a kid sprain his ankle week 1. He still claimed it was hurting week 12. But, he made a great water boy.
Had a kid scream that he tore his ACL in practice, just stepping through a ladder. He was gimpy the next day, and then fine after that.

We had a DB tear his acl this year while trying to tackle our RB in practice. He suplexed him and his foot just got caught in the turf. Dumb luck!

Anytime a kid gets hurt now, something is "torn"
We had a kid go down with a broken back this season after the second game. Turns out he was playing the first two games with it and had no idea.
We also had a ton of "shoulder" injuries and instead of our kids going to see the trainer and being sent to doctors they went to a chiropractor who told them to not play.

Had a kid a few years ago tear his ACL or MCL (don't remember which right now) doing walking lunges in the morning on the first day of camp.

Here is our list this year.
Starting RB - Sprained shoulder week 4, torn ligaments week 8 Starting QB - Lost middle fingernail stiff arming a LB week 9 Starting RG - Dislocated pinky toe while pulling week 5 Starting C - Worst calf cramp I have ever seen in my life week 6. Seriously it was like a alien crawling under his leg where his calf was supposed to be. Bothered him until week 10 Starting LB - Torn ACL week 4. Played the whole season and didn't miss a game. Starting S - Sprained shoulder week 1. Went to see his cousin who is a chiropractor twice a week. Backup CB - Broken ribs week 4 durine practice. But he didn't know they were broke until week 6.

Our starting QB got frostbite on his non throwing hand this year. Frostbite.
I'm going to bet I'll never see that one again.

I'm not even going to list our injuries, too many to list.
We had 22 different starters on defense this year because of injuries. For several weeks we had anywhere from 10 to 15 out at one time. I'd never seen anything like what we went through.
