Our season came to an end on Friday..as usual I was disappointed with losing and the season ending but for the first time I was relieved that it was finally over. Go figure it was only round 2 of the playoffs. I have NEVER been so happy to see a group of seniors LEAVE a program I was coaching in. They were the most selfish, nonchalant, non caring, disrespectful, immature group I have EVER been around. We have good sophs/jrs who started acting like these knuckleheads late in the season. The bus ride home from a 41-8 loss was pitiful...you would have thought we won the game. That was the jr/sr bus..I didn't say anything because the HC sat there like he didn't even here the nonsense. When we got back to the office I made the statement "that was the happiest 41-8 loser I have ever been around" he replied...aggressively I might add..."The season was over..those guys are seniors..why get up and yell shut up just so one of them can act out and try to cuss you out and cause an even bigger scene" I just looked at him and shook my head...Our DC already said he wasnt coming back next year because he doesnt want to coach our kids mostly based off the problems we have had the last 2 years. Missed practices, disrespect to coaches....Around mid season I started questioning did I want to go through another possible season like this...This season was frustrating and like I said..the competitor in me was upset that we lost the game ending our season but then I was like finally its over...you can comment if you want but I needed to get this rant off my chest today...lol

At first I thought you were on my staff!
It was just one of those years... but it was my first year as HC so it was a transitional year. We had a decent year but had all the things you described. I enjoyed being an HC but it was the worst group I've ever been around. Our young kids we had practicing separate so they were shielded from the BS as much as possible.
It's going to be a get in or get out off season (my first full one). There is no other way to go about it.
I did nothing related to football this past weekend after we lost. I spent some time with my family and just watched football on TV. It was nice and relaxing. Now it's back to work today preparing for the banquet, equipment turn in, etc.
As many have advised me on here, just keep working, get rid of what doesn't need to be there and stick to your guns.

This past weekend, I had a few players texting me about uploading Friday nights game..I just responded "soon" lol...I just wanted to be a fan! lol

Two years ago we had an awful group of seniors who really didn't mind that they only won 3 games. Sadly, it was 3 games against the right teams, so we made the playoffs. Got hammered, and they didn't seem to care.
I always hate the off season and everything like that, but man, I was extremely glad to be rid of those guys.
Had a great year last year and have had a better year this year. So, it can always get better.

At the end of all 11 games you would have thought we won...A couple of these dudes have had the audacity to say "I wish we had practice today" at various times this week.

WE had a very successful season. I coach a youth 5th grade team. We went 7-1 in the regular season only giving up 2 TDs on defense. Our lone loss was by a point. Went into the playoffs as the #2 seed and won our semi-final game 13-0 giving up just one first down (on a chain measurement too). In the finals, we played a team who hadn't lost in 3 seasons. It was a great game, but in the end we came up short. Boys fought hard till the end. First team in our city to make it to an AYF state final. 5 of the boys made the in-state all star team.

Nothing but bad things could happen when you chew out a bunch of seniors after their last game. That's JMO

Finished 6-6 and got shut out twice by the same team. (The first one was the first time we have been shut out in like 130+ games) Driving the bus back after losing in the first round of the playoffs and the kids were acting like fools. I thought about letting them have it. (Underclassman bus) But, just turned on the bus lights and said guys! Jr, Next year this bus right might be a little bit quieter. You never really know how much your going to miss something until its gone. Now... sit down because if a Deer jumps out in front of me and I pump the breaks I don't want to have to explain to your Mom or Dad why your front teeth are missing. Kids laughed and settled down.

I can understand your frustration with the situation but if the seniors didn't care all season then why would you expect them to care when the season is over? Set the expectations in the off season and thank the lord that graduation removed your teams tumor

Should have gotten rid of the "Cancer" sooner.
After we lost in the 2nd round, I went down south and watched a playoff game of a buddy of mine. The team he played had a new HC and had only won 1 game the season prior. The HC came in and cleaned house and as a result, had about 4-5 STARTERS as FRESHMAN!
Here are the positions: - QB - DE (already offered by Fla. State) - OL - DB
It can be done......
