Has just signed with USC...
Who's the bigger tool?
Mitch for leaving a rising Arkansa team because he wasn't the star... as a freshman?
Or Pete Carrol... has his choice of any QB in the nation, and he takes the prima donna, that upset the apple cart on an 8-0 Arkansa? Why reward such a punk kid?
Who's with me?

Nothing dumb about Carroll. It's a no lose situation. Mustain will be competing with a super QB, Mark Sanchez already there. Unbelievable competition is what many people say has made USC the past decade. If Mustain is a 'tool', he'll get dropped liek a hot rock because they have a great alternative. If he is squared away and actually better, even better for the trojans. You wouldn't believe some of teh h.s. studs from out here that go to SC and can't even get on the field. I talk to all th erecruiters that come through and they agree that a decade ago when SC was losing half the time to the Oregon States and Oregons, SC still had the best talent and was getting at least 5 of every 10 studs in So Cal. Now it's like 8 or 9 of 10.

Im not up on the situation so I have to ask, why did they pull him in week 10 after he went 8-0? Plus, I guess he just feels like the loss of his coach and friend makes it a better move to leave. I cant really blame the guy.

I cant really blame the guy. They were winning running the ball and Mustain was making some freshman mistakes so they started D ick(yes that is his name). In the bowl game they lost to Wisconsin and Dick/Mustain split time. Mustain only left Arkansas because he was promised so much and none of that materialized. I think both of his high school teamates that he wanted to play with have transferred too. As far as Arkansas up and coming...without McFadden they aren't much. Rumor has it that the Head Coach is on a short leash because it seems that none of the players respect him. (PROBLEM) I remember everyone was caught by suprise when he announced he was going to Ark. Mustain is a great QB but so is Sanchez. I think if Mustain gets to play he will be a first day pick in a couple years.

I would love to see mustain do well at usc, it would do well for arkansas football to have a quarterback, or posterboy so to say for athletes here to see. It would be wrong of me to say that mustain is totally in the right, but he wasn't totally in wrong either.
I think him being pulled after going 8-0 for the hogs hurt his feelings for someone else to come in, but many of the players on the team and I am sure he could see it as well, that dick was the better quarterback.
I think the nail in the coffin for mustain was the fact that his high school coach(later oc for arkansas) had his hands tied after the 5th or 6th game to basically being a wall flower. The reason the 8 players from springdale went to arkansas is because of him.
After having his hands tied they went out and hired a co-oc to work with the passing game, which was why malzhan was brought in. Nutt already knew how to run the football but the passing game at arkansas has been limited.
I think that arkansas needed some sort of drama after this season and that is the reason for the soap-opera going on now. It gives them an excuse if they can not produce the same results next year.
The ad at UofA did one thing for the university while he was there, he did get every bit of media centered around the university so much that it is hard to hear anything about any of the other schools.
Asu had won their homecoming against a team who had not lost a game in the sunbelt conference in 3 years and asu recieved no media attention at all. You couldn't even find the score of the game in the state newspaper. Only the local newspaper in that area told anything of the game.
As I said I do hope he does well at usc I think after all of the drama with the hogs this past season and off season it will be good for the morale of the high school athletes

I don't get why he went to USC. maybe he thinks hes good enough, but why not take a spot where you know you'll start. He should have transferred to wisconsin, I bet he starts there.

As a longtime Hog fan, I can say that this situation was a mess from mid-season on. Basically he wanted to throw the ball more, but he was not ready to have the offense uncorked for him because he just was making bad decisions. His Mom is a total piece of work and did nothing to help the situation while chewing on his ear all season and developing this sour attitude that obviously affected his play.
Mitch needed time to see and learn opposing defenses and just was not being productive. Lockerroom talk that was shared with me had him being quite negative and talking about leaving before the bowl game and that was part of the reason for the split time in the latter games. Nutt wanted to put the best product he could on the field, can't blame a coach for not trusting a kid who speaks, acts and has a mother going ballistic on TV, Radio and Newpaper.
BTW, isn't it funny to have a coach named Nutt and QB named Dick?

Was Troy Aikman a bum for transferring to UCLA?

Players have to do what they think is best for them, not what the fans want. If that is what Mitch wants power to him. He is a great athlete, not a bum. JMO

I am not saying hes not good enough to play at USC its just that USC has so many good QBs that he could end up not even playing there where as if he transfered to a team that was in the bottm half of the top 25 he could have gaurenteed a spot.

I admire the kid for wanting to push himslef and not being afraid of competition. The cream always rises to the top. It is amazing what Pete Carroll is doing getting all of these great players at the same positions. Competition breeds success. Good for Mitch for not shying away from it. The great players want to test themselves against the best.

Most of us high school guys already admired the work that Coach Malzahn had done. Since I don't have a "dog or hog in this fight" I am really amazed that no one said one thing publically in Arkansas when a high school coach was placed in the O.C. position to begin with. That was the major surprise to me, and of course among us guys sitting around the water cooler after practice-we all knew why he was put in that position. Because Coach Malzahn brought all those "all star" players with him. Of course, perfectly legal and fine with everyone in Arkansas.
Now everyone either hates the QB, or his Mom or any of the other stars whose lives have been dragged through the mud, for what? Coach Nutt looks like his name sake, the kids looked like spoiled brats, the University lost it's storied A.D, the program hanger-ons looked like fools ( some really badly) the athletic program is being laughed at by coaches across the country- Yeah I guess it wasn't a real good idea to put a high school coach in as the Offensive Coordinator in one of the most powerful football conferences and one of the most well known football programs in the south. Dr. Phill might say, "How's that working for ya."
Maybe better times are ahead for the Arkansas faithful, the kids, Coach Nutt, and Coach Malzahn. I like the Arkansas mascot too. OJW
