Do you ever look around at your team and your main thought is...we need 2 graduations.

I felt the same way yesterday...took over a program this year, seniors seem like they dont care if we win or lose..I got a solid group of freshmen and sophs right now, program will be in good shape when they are the core

...and a few shots!
A young program definitely brings on a lot of stress. I always struggled on how long to hang with seniors if they are a little better, knowing that the young guys playing more would help the program in the long run.

I usually try to measure that by how much work they put into the program. If they were a dedicated senior I usually try to stick with them, if they didnt show loyalty to the program I will usually go younger

Been there, done that. Last week in fact. I am the third head coach in 3 years, so understandably the seniors are struggling with me. It's gotten better since we've won some games, but that animosity still exists. More and more young guys are playing and many are seeing the writing on the wall. We have one suspended this week and may not make it back from that. As many have advised me on here you have to have your expectations set and ensure that the poor attitude of the seniors does not trickle down so that you set yourself up down the road.

Been there. I took over a programs 3 years ago that had 3 seniors, 4 juniors, 11 sophomores, 11 Freshman. We went 0-11 year 1, 2-9 year 2, and this year we are currently 4-1 with our first loss coming this past Friday to a team that was much better athletically. Hang in there and stick with your plan. It will get better.

How about losing 5 two way starters to injury?

I feel ya. Our kids just don't seem to care. We got rolled Saturday by a team that shouldn't hold our jock, because we just don't care. Its a military school(as I've mentioned) and they just seemed happy to be off campus for a day, not about winning. This week is another game we could win. However, we kicked them out of practice yesterday because they just didn't care to be there. What Im struggling with, is why should I leave my job early every day (and have to take half hour personal time)when they don't care? Why should I watch 8 hours of film, when they dont care? I have 10000 other interest and things I could be doing from 4-6 every day and every Friday night. I don't have it in me to quit on them, but man, after the last two days...its been tough.

Sounds like some quality youth/middle school coaches in the making. Plenty of coaching to get your football fix, but plenty of time off to spend on your boat!
