Just wondering what your thoughts are on this... Traded film with the next weeks opponent and the film had very obviously been doctored. One very important offensive drive had been cut out and all they sent us was the tight view, line version of their film. When asked about it we were informed that it was the only film they had to trade and could not correct the "mistake". (they film three different angles)

Just kick their ass without film, and don't bother trading with them next year. I don't understand why coaches are so worried about the other team knowing what they COULD do.
It all boils down to personel and adjustments anyway.

Use it as motivation. The same thing happened to me in 2001 in the state playoffs in Colorado. The film was edited to leave out scoring plays and certain formations. I had a very good scout who attended one of the opponent's games, so we were prepared anyway. By the way, we did win the game.

We have had the same situation arise with one of our opponents. We found-out that the HC of one of our pre-season opponents had a parent film from the front row of the stands - and they used a tight angle. The film was just useless, and that was the one he 'traded'. He kept the press box film to himself. The HC has no class. So, we got together with this team's opponents in the weeks before the game and arranged to get copies of the tape from them. We offered what we could, but didn't really need to . . . the HC had given them crap film as well, so they readily agreed to give us copies of their tape. Rather than give him our film, we told him to call our earlier opponents and get copies of their film. We also called those coaches and told them it was OK to give a copy of their tape from our game to this HC. (We also told them it was OK NOT to give him a copy of the film if they chose).

hah bulldog, we did the exact same thing. I understand coaches not wanting to give film..thats fine. We'll make adjustments. But saying you will give film, giving us a crappy useless copy, and us sending you our film in normal full field vision, thats just cheap and tactless. If your a coach that sends other teams these kinds of useless films, I guarantee it will come back to bite you. Most of the coaches around the state now know of this guy, and nobody trades with him anymore. Most coaches voluntarily give their opponents film, while denying him any sort of film.

No one wants to trade films. We have to go scout and film for ourselves or send someone to film.

That's against the rules here. Can't do your own video. Must trade with other teams. Don't know why, but that is the rules.

I've never really had a problem like this (maybe I'm naive). I've received some bad films... 99% of the time I think it's because they just have a bad film. We have a great film- our guy does a really good job... sometimes I hate giving opponents a good film of us when I have to slow-motion just to decipher anything. I guess there I just comfort myself in the fact that they don't learn much from their own films either and we do learn a lot from our own.
The AFCA has a specific code of ethics regarding video exchange. it would be nice if we could have something like that on a HS level (our conference does- our state does not).

i have a standard thing i do if i get screwed on film, and the coaches i play against know it now and won't screw me because i have done it twice. If it happens, take every piece of tape you 've got on them, and your game film with them and send it to everybody remaining on their schedule including playoffs, make sure to throw in scouting reports, tendancies, etc... They'll be pissed about it, but thwy won't screw you again.

there's certain coach in our town who does it all the time. the coaches in city and around the state trade whatever they have on his team. the only probelm is that his teams keep winnig games. it really sucks!!

We have to exchange tapes in our conference. We have received poor quality tapes in the past, but I don't think it was ever done purposefully.
We did have a playoff opponent a few years ago who sent us a suspect tape, but we simply had better athletes and beat 'em anyway.

In SD we are required to send game film to playoff opponents, but at no other time during the season (can't speak for conferences, though). What is it like elsewhere?
