What all do you cover with parents in your meetings right before the season starts?
Major points are obviously: Team Rules, Practice/attendance expectations, Concussions, Injury protocols, etc...
Anything off the wall or anything you can share would be great!

I heard some coaches talk about how they teach tackling to minimize concussions as part of their concussion talk. I thought it was an awesome idea.

Here are a few thing that come to mind: How about handing every parent a calendar that contains game days and practice days for the entire season (including weekends, 3-day weekends, and days off of school)? What is an excused absence and what is not. The protocol for players returning to practice after going to a doctor for any injury. Who plays in what games (varsity, jv, soph). Academics and how the we handle things such as kids coming to practice late as a result of having to get extra help or complete make-up work. What the coaches do to keep players on the "academic straight and narrow"(in other words, coaches periodically checking grades). Concussion protocol. The big one is convincing parents to get kids to talk with coaches(face to face-not a text or email-especially from parent) if kids have a problem or issue.

The "24 Hour Rule" - as in we are happy to discuss Jimmy's playing time, role on the team, etc. but not until at least 24 hours have past since the last contest.

I also like to have an anticipated roster with a line for a parent/guardian signature next to their kid. I find it's helpful when a parent who wasn't at the meeting begins having issues with rules/expectations half way through the season.
