I have a wr who is 6'3", he just came back from the doctor and the doctor said that he's going through a growth spurt because of his back and knee pain. We're excited because he's supposed to reach 6'6". Is he supposed to lift? Why or why not?

Yes he should lift! Light weights (10-12 reps) and Medium weights (6-8 reps) will actually promote bone growth and solidity along with increasing flexibility and muscle density. The improvements in speed and strength will also increase his confidence and help make him a better player.

I agree, lighter weights with more reps for tone and conditioning, until he can move on to building mass with the heavier ones. But only if his symptons are attributed to his growth spurt. If it is due to a previous injury, have him sign a waiver. If he does have a bad back and knees, though, maybe he is better off playing chess. At least that way, he isn't on crutches and in a wheelchair by the age of 30.
