Joey Porter Comments

"What I said and what he said really doesn't carry any weight right now. The game is over," Porter said. "We're champions, so it's hard to hold a grudge."
Porter wasn't even boasting that he got in Stevens' head. "He dropped a couple of balls, I know," he said. "I don't know how mentally tough he is. I don't know if it really had an effect or not. He is a good player. He's good enough to be in this game."
The game was not a total disaster for Stevens. He did score the Seahawks' only touchdown on a 16-yard catch in the third quarter to get them within 14-10 - he had a total of three catches for 25 yards - but even then he fought the ball before he secured it. He also had a huge 18-yard catch at the Steelers' 1 early in the fourth quarter with the Seahawks down by four points, but the play was wiped out by a holding call on right tackle Sean Locklear. Two plays later, Matt Hasselbeck was intercepted by Ike Taylor at the 5, which set up the Steelers' clinching touchdown.
Every time Stevens dropped a pass, there were Steelers barking at him. After his first drop, which came after a big hit by safety Chris Hope, he was escorted part of the way back to the huddle by linebackers Larry Foote and Clark Haggans.
"He had a lot of drops," Steelers linebacker James Farrior said. "Maybe Joey got in his head. His game plan the whole week was to get in Stevens' head. I think he might have done that."
Porter said he didn't talk to Stevens at all. "He was so far away, I never really had any words to say to him," he said.
Farrior made up for it. "I tried to talk to him every time he dropped the ball if I was close enough," he said.
What did he say to him?
"I called him a few names," Farrior said. "I really can't repeat what I said. I just let him know we were out there and we were going to be talking to him all day."
Stevens wasn't forthcoming about the treatment he received. Asked if the Steelers were getting on him, he said, "Yeah."
The Joey and Jerramy story is over. There will be another next year.
