What do you guys do to help build a concept of "TEAM"?
This season we are planning on getting away from everything for two days and just having football. We will practice the basics at each position, but we are also going to have time for film and something to help unite the team. That is the part we are still looking for.
Any suggestions?

Off Season
Once A Month 630 am - 2nd Friday of month- Leadership Class for Juniors & Seniors that want to attend.
400 pm - Last Friday of month - Team Activity night, team comes together away from school for movie, pool, bowling, swimming, etc to have fun
800 am - 3rd Saturday of month - Strong Man Competition...much like the ESPN show, three weight classes
600 am - Every Tuesday morning - "Open Gym" team gathers for speed / agility work for 45 minutes.
Summer ---7 on 7 leagues and tournaments --- Team Contact Camps away from city. Two words....Road Trip!
Iowa = NO contact / "practices" until the Summer (no Spring ball) ...have to be creative. We do not have 2 a days in the Summer (so many coaches are NOT teachers).

We have open gym activities in the winter/spring. Kids love playing dodge ball in gym on a friday night.

brophy, great ideas... another good team building concept is taking you team to a ropes course, they'll learn to trust each other and overcome there fears TOGETHER.

I used to do outdoor education and programming at a youth camp. If you have a high ropes course near you, you need to do it. The kids will love it and the leadership and confidence is great!

Taking your players to a National Guard or college ROTC training cite with all the obstacle courses and things is awesome for building team unity and fun. Many of these organizations love having the athletes for recruiting process and breaks up the grind for them as well. A picnic afterwards would be nice too. Your kids will swear it was harder than most of your workouts if they go through more than once or twice.
