What do you do to communicate with other coaches in your school and feeder programs? Our coaching staff for all sports is mostly made up of off campus or volunteer coaches. I feel like I don't know even half of them and it is very frustrating. So what kind of stuff do you guys do to get to know the staff? Do you have staff meetings, retreats, bar socials? Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not the head guy so I need to present the A.D. with some viable options to get the ball rolling.

I sat down for dinner with our JFL guys last year and we just talked about what we wanted to do. They were great at implementing what we ran on the Varsity level. I didn't even ask them to, they just did it. It is nice to have people like that.
One other thing, last year I told our JFL guys to come to our practice field. They were practicing at the park before then. We had some extra room so we let them practice with us. It was great because we had constant contact and could talk back and forth every day.

My wife likes to host a pre-season barbeque for all the football coaches and their spouses. This is a good way to open the lines of communication.

I'm not in the building but for me it's simple- I go to conditioning three days a week after school. Not all of our guys are able to attend all of the sessions but they do check in periodically. We do go to a clinic but not all of our guys can make that, either. If the boss needs to communicate aomething he'll call them.

I don't really mean with the football staff. We all work the weight room and conditioning. I mean networking with coaches of other sports. I like to think we could be much better as a school if our coaches would communicate with each other. And get the kids working throughout the year.

I think you have to open the door. Approach them. Invite them to supper. All coaches are busy, but I think if you make the effort, most will respond how you want them to.
