I came to this site because of a post on another site that football is actually talked about here. I have spent hours the past couple of days just reading through things.
I am a 3rd year coach, 1st year OC at a high school in TN but come from Ohio. Ultimately I would like to either coach college or be a HC at a high school. I currently run a pass heavy multiple formation no-huddle spread because we have a solid smart QB and good WRs but really like spread option football. Regardless of the style of Offense, I like watching and trying to pick out things that can help us.
To the coach that posted on the other site, thank you for letting us know about this website.

Hi there. Greetings from Australia. I am about to enter my 9th year of coaching at our amateur level. We have a ''cub-based'' youth program in Australia, as opposed to School based with an amateur league for Players Over 18. Our players are passionate about the game and keen to learn, but as coaches we battle against competition from the ''traditional'' football codes here, against financial restraints (all coaches are volunteers and all players pay to play) and one of the biggest hurdles, against time restraints (2 x 2 hour training sessions per week). I am the HC/Offensive Coordinator at the moment, but the nature of our sport here means that I have had the opportunity to coach every position. We run a Zone run game with quick passing game and a base 4-3 on defense. You would be amazed some of the things we can accomplish with only limited time to implement, and some players with no experience whatsoever. Either way, gotta love football.
I have enjoyed the insights of this forum so far and as a student of the game, have found a new wonderland to disappear into here. I look forward to participating in discussions and learning from the experience that abounds.

Been coaching for 10 years now. Spent time as a Sophomore Head Coach right out of college at my first school, then one year as a DC. Then moved back to home town and have been the offensive coordinator since. We are 4A/5A school in Illinois.
Offensively run out of the Gun since 2005, but before that was a double wing (g-scheme belly, midline, IV, OV, counter). Run for the most part the same series now from gun.
On defense was a 4-3 cover 4 guy. I am a big fan of Cover 4 and route reading vs. dropping to zones.

Just finished up my first year as Head Coach at a small school in CA. Had our first winning season ever in school history, so there is some excitement at the school. I have read alot of the different post and like the ideas coaches share.

Checking in from NY, not exactly football country, but we are as passionate about as every other coach in the country. Currently Varsity QB coach and special teams coordinator. Have always been an option offense from my Junior High Days, lost 1 game in 3 seasons, to my 15th yr as a HS coach the last three on the Varsity, made the playoffs all three yrs with one trip to the finals. As for defense, the 50 has always been my defense of choice. I am currently researching the Iso-triple option, with the hope it might be our offense for this upcoming season, please chime in on my thread under offense-running game as I could use your experienced input, since this offense hasn't been run since the 70's.

HC in a AAA Minnesota school. Have been a DC up until this coming fall.
I'm looking closely at some type of single back shotgun or pistol formation with option football being the forte. We run the 3 5 3 and seem to be getting better at it each year, I hope.

Hello My name is Kitt Rawlings. I coach Football in Clark County at Ridgefield High School. I am new in this area. I was told this was a great site to pick up information and talk with coaches.
I was recruited By coach Bill Snyder and Coach Bob Stoops to play for Kansas State University in the Early 90's. I played on both sides of the Ball while at KSU. My Offensive and Defensive philosophy are primarily consistent with those while playing there. I had a brief stint with the London Monarchs of the NFL Europe as a Defensive Back.

My name is Jason, I'm a 27 year old aspiring coach. I work part time as a courier for FedEx and go to school full time. I'm in the process of finding a coach in the KC area that can use me and work with my schedule, atleast until I get out of school. I play in a competitive flag football league and enjoy reading and watching sports. I found this site about 6 months ago, but really started enjoying it about 2 weeks ago. Thanks for everything you all have taught me!

Hi coaches, my name is Eric Vaughn, and i am incredibly humbled and excited by this site... i played D1AA/FCS @ ETSU, and was fortunate enough to be in the Arena game and in Europe, and worked with a great AFL/CFL scouting company after i traded the football cleats for the Bible...
i now serve in the ministry and am working to get my teaching certification and about to take an OC job, and possibly my first HC job at a smaller AA school in southwest VA... i am excited about the possibility of HC and anxious, and about any other emotion that you guys are familiar with in this situation... i preach sermons and deal with people's lives but im excited to be able to take the many many nuggets that have been given to me over the years and freely give them to some young men that are in desperate need of structure and leadership... because a sermon is given to a room full, but a coach even to a team of 100 is still a 1 on 1 position with a large area for impact...
like i said i am humbled by this forum from reading the vast knowledge that is here from the MANY MANY years combined experience, and i can only pray that through my career that i could tweak some of the "X's and O's of football" (pun intended =P) to be a contributor and give back to you men as i have been given... and although i can never repay the men that have influenced me, and just in the few days that ive been here picking up on small things to change in my own scheme (having a "why didnt i think of that moment")... BUT... what i cant repay them or already some of you guys... i can sew back into the youth that we are determined to change and equip...
if there is one thing i have already learned about this site... and im sure some of you have already discovered this well before my time lol... is if i click the little "x/o" bookmark in my tool bar... i have to have at least 30 minutes of free time to start, because once i come to this site i usually either leave because i have to be somewhere or begin to get a head ache from trying to wrap my mind around all of the different schemes represented on this forum...
so after saying all that... im "HAPPY" to be here lol

I am in my 3rd year as a HC at a small school in a northeastern state. It's a daunting task, we constantly struggle with numbers and have not won a game in my first 2 seasons as the head coach. We will be better in 2010 and I am still motivated to teach this game to kids. I have had outsiders look at what we do to make sure our failures are not coaching related, we are in a talent drought but are starting to come out of it. Look forward to clunking around this site.

I am a HS Defensive Coordinator at this point in time for 2 years. I started my coaching career on the FCS level with an annually Top 10 program. I coached Special Teams there and was the QB&OL assistant with multiple responsibilities to all 3 units of football. Basically a G.A, but actually coached my own position.
I was in college for two years and then chose to move with the girlfriend to pursue a teaching job so that I could actually use the degree I paid for, make a little bit more money, and gain better development experience from adapting college techniques to HS players.
I played Safety and WR during my day. I've always loved the offensive side of the ball, but my passion has recently gone to defense. The reason being I can say, "Ha, I shut down your O with my D because of my understanding of offense." I like saying that instead of, "Ha, I beat your crappy D with my O and outscored you."
I'm highly confident, but please don't mistake that for cocky. I tell it like it is and don't beat around the bush. If you sugar coat things you will not get a long with me at the start and will have to work into my personality. I've worked with children all my life growing up in a family of teachers. There's nothing I'd rather do with my time.
I live in the film room when I am not with my lady. That will change once I have children, but thankfully that has not happened yet as I will be coaching back on the college level very soon.
Thanks, IaCoachQ

Offensive Line Coach and JV Offensive Coordinator. I have been coaching for three seasons in the spread offense and I played three seasons in the spread at Illinois College and one season in the Wing-T at Augustana. I hope to one day be a small college coach. I was told of this site by a colleague and it is great.

New here.
Central New York State.
Was a JV coach 18 years ago - for 4 seasons. When my boys were born I stopped.
Began again two years ago as an Assistant Modified (Middle School) coach.
Our varsity coach, after 18 years, with numerous Sectional Championships, and 3 times to the State Semi-Finals, will retire after next fall.
I have been named to take over.
I think most of the other guys were afraid to take over after a storied coach and program.
Me? I think we will be better now. Just sayin'.
Pick-ed up some good tips from this site already, thanks.

I'm a young guy aspiring to be a coach, especially on the offensive side of the ball. I was born, raised and still live in the suburbs of Buffalo, NY. I played 4 years of high school football for one of the best teams in the area where I grew up (got to play @ Ralph Wilson Stadium twice). Even though I played football in Western New York my team traveled often and played games against different schools from other states (mostly PA and OH). Even though we went to Ohio twice a year and got our butts kicked 3 of the 4 times, playing in front of an Ohio crowd was one of the best experiences of my life. In my junior year we beat a team from Cleveland in their home field, and the next week we were nationally ranked. Because one of our players was heavily recruited by Ohio State we got to practice in their practice facility TWICE when we played in Cincy, and it was an awesome sight to see. During my senior year I knew that I wasn't the best player on the field, which is where my passion for being a coach began.
My offensive preferences are definitely one back formations with an emphasis on zone runs and drop back passes. I would love to be under center even with 4 receivers, but depending on talent going shotgun would not kill me. I don't really have a preference for defenses, so whether it be a 4-3, 4-4, 5-2 or 3-5 it doesn't matter to me.
But to wrap it up I am a huge fan of the game, I love learning about it, and this summer after I graduate from college I'm hoping to volunteer at local high schools in order to learn some more and get a chance at one day becoming an offensive coordinator or even head coach.

Hey all; Great to be here. THe only coaching experience I have right now is T-ball and soccer. I hope the change that as my kids get older. Football is the sport that I care about first and foremost. It's been that way my whole life (go Raiders, Cal and Fresno State!). I'm 16 years into a military career and I hope to eventually become a coach of a H.S. team wherever I settle down. I've been doing as much research as I can, and I've decided that I want to run the single-wing and the 3-3-5 defense. Looking forward to learning from this website. Thanks.

5A QB Coach Central Indiana
Played QB through college at a DIII school in Indiana. Have played for and coached a little bit of everything from full house power run team to five wide spread and some other stuff in between.
I love this site, it has truly made me a better coach. I used to think I had a great understanding of "the passing game," then I came to this site.

I've been lurking for about a month and i love the site. I'm about to go into my first year of coaching at a very small private school with about 20 dressing for varsity. I played ball in high school and have a decent S & C background. Our school runs the Air Raid and we are a 3-5 D.

I'm from Sweden, which is basically the home of hockey. Football isn't even on the map when talking to Joe Blow on the street. My town is the 5th largest in Sweden, or thereabouts, does not have a football team anymoree, so it is on my agenda to start it up, with a little help from friends.
My venture into football consists of having produced a football game for PC and that process got me, well, obsessed with the sport and have tried to get even more deeper knowledge ever since.

I am a graduate student in the state of Florida, and I am not a coach.
While I one day hope to get into coaching in some capacity, currently I just love the game and love to learn about it. I played in HS but wasn't near good enough to play on the college level, and ever since I try to read about football and talk to coaches I know.
