Hi. Register, and tell us as much or as little as you want about yourself. Understand, this is a message board on the internet, so giving out real names and where you actually coach might not be the best idea (feel free to do so on pm's though ) But just tell us what you like to run on offense, defense so we can get an idea what school of football you are coming from. There are so many semantics issues that confuse people on football boards sometimes it gets frustrating and people can get confused/aggravated. Let's nip that in the bud and we can get a good idea at least where you are coming from when you talk about different things. oh yeah. Have some fun, talk some ball, this site has some great coaches on here contributing. I have been conversing with many by email/in person/or other message boards for a long time and the knowledge already here would make a great staff. (now, who gets to be the hc? huey? )

I guess I should follow my own advice.
Tog
Currently OC in Texas 4A. Played OL in college. Big by birth. Nimble by hard work. Smart by ummm, yeah.
Football background
HS-splitback veer College-run and shoot HS (coach) school 1-multiple oneback zone---OL coach
school 2- power i, stack i,---OL coach
school 3- I belly, belly option, veer, counter gt---OL coach,
school 3 (offensive philosophy change) oneback zone/stretch/counter gt----OL coach
school 4-first oc job----tackle over I, spread gun with jets----OL coach
school 5---second oc job----full gun, zone/zone lead/zone lead counter/veer/dart/midline/flash/dash from gun with jet motions from spread and compressed sets ......rb/qb/ol coach of all hats---where I learned the most
school 6-third oc job----standard spread/I stuff (not my choice on either) --ol coach--where ideas got truly cemented as to what truly works on a consistent basis for high school ball
school 7-4th oc job--very multiple sets under and gun, inside zone/IZ leads/IZ counters/veer with flash/dash actions on top of them all built in with carryover in how its taught with concept passing game built off protections based on our run game----qb coach
defenses- have seen em all--and some that defy description
oh yeah, I am silly at times but I love talkin football and consider myself a student of the game. 17 years in now

Out of our split we will shift fronts frequently either through alignment, stemming, or flipping across faces. Coverage wise, we will run covers 1,2,3 and combos of those three.
As far as the weather affecting what we do offensively, we practice in the same conditions we play in, so I guess you get used to it.

mojo, how hard was it dialoguewise to go from the wing t to the pro look in college? Whenever I read or hear wing t guys, it sounds chinese to me. it was not hard to transition. As a running back the steps are pretty much the same. Take the playbook in high school and add about 200 pages. Lot's of pass protections and check downs from those blocking assignments if no responsibilty. Wing T had packaged plays that could be run with little change to blocking assignments... 30 trap/8 sweep/bootleg @ 9. Not a lot of packages like that with a multiple o...

so the actual stuff you were doing was not hard but was the lingo? like formations and how they called plays? yes... for example right 18 pitch turned in to "brown right toss 28 zone" pass plays went from right 61 pass to "red right 91 switch" rt 236 pass went to "i hawk right 124 y counter motion z under x post"

just so everyone knows....
i, too, am a texas boy. been around the state in my time. have coached several different positions in career. although, i've never directly coached linebackers or offensive line. spend majority of career involved on the offensive side, specifically the passing game. have been coaching qb's almost my entire career (it seems). been involved in variety of offenses: wishbone, wing-t, traditional oneback, power i, i formation, spread.

if any of you guys know forums from other states spread the word
There is a whole world of football out there besides Texas (even though we tend to forget that at times) Other states have different names for things, and some very different ideas about stuff. It is always good to hear new ideas. I have talked to coaches all over the country on the internet and learned a lot, so let's make this place "bad and nationwide"

Thanks Tog, I wondered this last year just how much I really knew, going 2-8 was killing me! But, on the bright side we played almost all young kids (6 Freshmen), it was killing me last season but it makes this one look a little better.

SMaKKinK
HS Wing T 5-2 and 4-3
Coached Jr. High for 3 years Off. - Spread and Wing T Def. - Split, 4-3, 5-2, 5-3
I was in charge of the defense, so I liked to throw a lot at the opposing team and watch the other coaches throw things on the side line because there kids couldn't ever get their blocking assignments.
I currently don't coach. I may get back into it once I get some finances straightened out. This past year I coached the defense for our little leage team. We won the championship. I may just stick with that since teaching really wasn't that good to me. I loved to coach but hated the teaching. I don't know a lot, but I'm always willing to learn anything I can about defenses.
